    Hi, anyone know this?
I load win98SE into a freshly formatted new HD and in the process of updating system settings I get error meesages; Regsvr32 at Kernel32.DLL and Msrepl40.DLL. Then it blue screens and shuts down.
I have tried 5 times to load it and even put in a new CDRW and tried another O/S disc. All I am doing is changing the HD in the computer, most frustrating.

Maybe the hard drive has some problems? Try doing a full erase (write 0's to the drive if possible). Or replace the IDE cable, be sure you're using the 80 wire 40 pin ide cables.

I low level formatted and re-partioned the HD when I got it.
It gets thru the load after I close the error boxes, I reboot to windows, but keeps coming up with errors after the load too.

Remove all but the basic components with Windows 98. One HD, CD, floppy, stick of memory, vid card. No sound cards, no modems, no NIC cards in the PCI slots....leave them out of it.

After a successful installation, replace each PCI card one at a time.

Then it has to be a bad piece of hardware.

If you can boot into Win98, just open the command prompt and run SFC.

That should find any 'bum' files the OS is hanging on or missing, and allow you to relace them with good ones from the disk.

One more thing: how big is the drive? How about the active partition; what did you set it to?

Remember, FAT32 has a size limit; can you check to see how large the drive shows up as in My Computer?

    Good luck,

    40 GB.

I just loaded Win ME to see what would happen, no problem with that.
My thing is that the software it needs to run only works under 98 or 98SE. Stupid old Lantastic network crap.

    If i remember correctly, doesn't win98 any flavor have a 32GB limit?.
If so then the largest partition you could have would be 32GB at best.
I may be wrong, it has been a few years since I last used win98.
