First: to benchmark your system using doom 3: open the console in the main manu (CTRL + ALT + º)and write this : "timedemo demo 1" Then after you've completed the benchamark, post here your results and comments. I achived 23 FPS at 800x600 at high quality (all advanced options on - no AA). I am not happy with it, I've tried all tweaks but I still can get at least 30 fps!!
46.7 FPS at your same settings. 800x600 at high quality (all advanced options on - no AA) Happy enough with it.. no tweaks done to doom 3 yet and vid card not OCed, so i'm sure i could get that over 50 FPS
The best possible thing anyone with 512mb of ram can do to improve there doom3 performance is buy another 512mb of ram. other than buying a next gen vid card of course.......... no amount of "tweaks" can compensate for lack of memory. remember that WinXP takes 128mb for itself leaving you with very little left for gaming, I would'nt even consider trying to game of WinXP with only 512mb of ram. My next build will have 2Gb of ram. from all the forums I've browsed through looking at doom3 performace by far the best way people have improved there FPS was more RAM - im most cases its doubled the frame rate of people that previously only had 512mb. the speed of the ram is much less important than the amount. food for thought gents............ and its a dam cheap upgrade!!!!!!!!
you can get over 50 without OC'ing - its called optimising can I recommend you take a FULL and PROPER look at this very very very very good WinXP optimising guide by the one and only tweaktown.com http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=review&dId=324&dPage=1 do your self and favor and follow this from start to finish including the further optimisation section that starts on page 10. It might take you half a day to do all this but man your machine will be so fast its unrecognisable afterwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously, this is good **** guys and worth anyones time and effort.
Like I said - Its well worth anyones time and effort to read through and understand the content of that guide. Im glad it helped you out dude, you'll also notice that windows itself is much more responsive @ a desktop level. Now next up would be optimising the BIOS settings for your MoBo. follow this link: http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=1 basically you just check what this guide suggests for each option that appears in YOUR BIOS - there will be lots of options that dont as this guide covers ALL BIOS'S. change anything that you need to and save the bios on exit. then its happy gaming
Oh and yes - I AM THE KING OF TWEAKING XP!!!!!! lol - just thought I'd blow my own trumpet for once!!!!! he he
OHHHH GOD THIS IS THE HAPPIEST DAY IN MY LIFE !!!! THERE WAS AN ERROR WITH MY APERTURE SIZE AND FAST WRITE CONFIG !! MY AZ WAS ONLY 64MB AND FAST WRITES OPTION WAS DISABLE. NOW AFTER FIXING IT, I GET 42 FPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS GOD !!! THANKS MOOD !!
forgot to ask what driver version your using??? also remember the startup entries that this guide gets you to remove will re-appear when you install new drivers/patches etc to your system. its always worth going back over the startup section every time you install new software. tweaking is a constant thing that requires your understanding and attention, not just a quick once over on an annual basis.
lol - looks like I got a new friend!!!! - at last that makes two whole friends all to myself now. perhaps someone else will read this and then ill have 3. EDIT: who's MOOD?? lol
BIG LOVE!!!!!! recon you could try 1024x768 and might hold above 30Fps now???? dont forget that extra RAM next time you got a few spare bucks.
fastwrites actualy "DOES" anything to this game? it must be the first one to make it faster instead of slower. Are you sure it wasn't JUST the agp size?
Its was most likely just the aperture that gave the last boost. system optimizing alone managed a sizable increase in the posts before. others REALLY should use that guide.
What timedemo demo 1, they say I dont have the map or something like taht, do I need to install something?
they typed it wrong.. ur supposed to put in "timedemo demo1" without quotes.. i had the same prob.. there is no space between the second demo and the 1
