I knew this was coming -- Meaning, I knew that no way in Hell was ATI going to loose sales of their X800 and other high end cards (9800 Pros; XTs) -- Because of poor performance in one of the most anticipated PC games that their customers (gamers) would be playing on Nvidia hardware instead.

    It makes perfect business sense.

I wonder if they are going to skip Cat 4.8 and go straight to 4.9 next release date?

If you OC your Core too high you'll get artifacts like those.
And this game is heavy so you see it faster with this game than another

Seems to work great for me. At 800x600 High Quality All Options enabled 8X AF 0XAA:

    Timedemo 1
    First Run: 27.4
    Second Run: 30.4

To tell you the truth, they're the exact same as what I was getting with the 4.8b's. It doesn't matter though, I'm getting constantly smooth framerates so I couldn't care less of the driver number :). Seems that these will help those with the X800's more, so just more of an incentive for me to get one now.

I'm going to try Call of Duty and see if OpenGL in general is faster.

Here is how to "Rip" the atioglxx.dll:

    1) Download the 4.9b hotfix.

    2) Let it set itself up in a folder on your HD.

    3) Hit "Cancel" when the install diallogue box comes up (hit "Yes" when the confirmation box pops up).

    4) Use Windows Explorer and find the following folder:

    C:\ATI\wxp-w2k-DOOM-HOTFIX-8-05-040727a-017086E\Driver\2KXP_INF\B_17036

    5) Find the file "atioglxx.dl_".

    6) Open it up with Winzip.

    7) Extract the "atioglxx.dll" to:

    C\Windows\system32\

    8) Reboot (just to make sure).

I would highly recommend installing the entire package, however, just because they might have even made some D3D and DX9c enhancements as well.
