i was looking around newegg and i noticed that there is a 5900nu for 219 retail http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-130-157&depa= I was planning to get a 9800 pro this summer but i have seen the many threads where people say that the 9800 pro is better than the 5900xt but is it also better than a 5900nu? I dont really see a difference between the 5900xt and the 5900nu except the speeds. Can anyone tell me if the 9800pro is still the good way to go?
What do you mean "better"? The 5900 has superior Image Quality with the new drivers (full trilinear filtering, top-notch AF, Supersampling-AA as an option, better subpixel-accuracy than the Radeon), since the 61.34 allows to turn off all "optimizations" (such as "brilinear"). The 9800 is highly optimized on all stages and is simply faster, especially in FarCry. It beats the 5900 in shader performance (next-gen titles like FarCry, HL2 etc. use shaders heavily) and Multisampling-AA.
r u guys 100% sure that the 9800 PRO os faster then the 5900Xt when the 5900XT is overclocked? cause im planning to get a 5900XT and i dont want to regret it
When you clock the **** outta that bunny w/ voltmod etc. you can get it on par w/ 9800 Pro - but not shaderwise...it will still lag in next-gen games.
Having both those cards, I can tell you that the 9800Pro is definitely faster than the FX5900, especially in games like FarCry. It's able to run farCry smoothly at the highest settings, whereas the FX5900XT gets sluggish at high settings. Image quality is very subjective though, to me it looks good with either card.
9800 Pro is much faster than 5900 NU and 5900XT, and you'll also get better image quality. 9800 Pro DOES FULL TRILINEAR, don't be confused about the X800 trilinear thing.
so i should get the RADEON 9800PRO?? PS: i want to be abled to run half life 2, doom 3 and so on smoothly and i dont need the AA or AF mode on i care bout the smoothness then the image
I'm pretty sure you'll be able to run HL2 and Doom3 perfectly without AA/AF. But don't forget that you overall system is also important when gaming. If you have a powerful system+9800Pro, then you don't have to worry
Hi mate, lot of argueing going on which to choose. I had the same problem. I too had a post here a long while ago about which is better, the 5900 or the 9800 pro? Well i can tell you this, both cards are great. And one might be faster then the other, the other will be faster in some areas in which the other one isn't. Kinda confusing right? Sorry about that i'm dutch . But what i'm trying to tell you that it doesn't really matter which card you get. They're both extremely good gaming cards. It all comes down to where your prefrence lies. Is that ATI or nVidia? When i was looking around to replace my card i stumbled on this: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.html and this will show you excactly what i mean. Have a look into it. Good luck picking the right card
