Why can't Nvidia add this to their drivers...

Command prompt utility nvidia-smi.exe is installed with drivers since forever. You dont need GUI for something that simple. I don't blame them for not showing this in NVCP as this is an advanced parameter BFU should not adjust.

For example to set 200W use:
    nvidia-smi -pl 200

To get current status report with ranges:
    nvidia-smi -q -d xxx
xxx can be power, temperature, clock etc.

    Other commands (help):
    nvidia-smi -h

I guess like with CRU you do this whenever you install a new driver?

The GUI is just so you don't have to use CMD to command line. and read the currently set power limit.

You can skip this article if you don't like it. thanks.

    Are you sure about this?
Power limit changes are not permanent as far I can remember. After OS restart it will be back to default value set in videocard bios.

    Then i'll stick with Afterburner.

I have simply made a task in task scheduler to close Afterburner two minuters after i booted my PC.

Its to bad there no more easy way to raise/edit the limiter in bios, so many of newer cards are power limited (mid-tier cards)
Use to use MaxwellBiosTweaker 1.36 with my GTX-970 was a great tool.

NVIDIA Power Management (NVPMM) updated to v2.0
    • Automatically apply Power Limit after booting the system. (requires PMM installed)
    • Added Power Group Limit Management (PGLM). (requires PMM installed)
    Power Group Limit Management (PGLM)

PGLM is divided into three groups: A, B, and C. Different Power Limits can be set for each group. You can customize different applications to enable different Power Limits.

For example: Add "cyberpunk2077.exe" into the Class A group, and set the Class A Power Limit to 320w, then when you run "cyberpunk2077.exe", it will run at 320w PL, and when you exit "cyberpunk2077.exe", the Power Limit will revert to default or global settings.
