I've been undervolting my 5700 XT with the driver for the past 3 years. Works great.

Also my target is 2000 clocks at 1.112V. It's rock solid. Any thing less and it can get iffy in various titles.

  3. I've been on 22H2 22621.521 for a day with both AMD and NVIDIA drivers and have no issues; Steam and games launched no problem. The NVIDIA issue above only applies if you run GFE apparently, and I didn't do that this install.

I started the W11 install with a 6600 XT with these 22.9.1 drivers, messed with some games, then swapped in a 3060 with the last 3 NVIDIA drivers (517, 525, and now 530).

I believe it's more than just 22H2 causing issues.

My ASUS Vega 64 ran like crap with the ASUS tuning utility installed, The driver and the utility was fighting over the same files leading to problems with fan control and instability, only solutions was uninstall and clean drivers.
I also had problems with MSI AB, though not on the same scale, but any change in frequency or voltage or fan curve made the card crash, even something as simple as lowering the core 10 Mhz, that to me indicates that there is a software problem somewhere.
leaving everything at stock and the card was suddenly much better in games and even furmark for multiple hours.
ASUS said it is working as intended.

Asus released a new bios for the TUF 6800 XT Gaming card. (And maybe others)
"BIOS update tool to improve stability of the graphics card."
    Date: 2022/07/28
    Version: 020.001.000.071.000000

    Old one:
    Date: 2020
    Version: 020.001.000.042.000000

Maybe this fixes some freezing (and is not entirely driver related)
    Will report asap.

    //edit
    fixed version typo

It's a problem with "D3D11 Video Processor" set as a resizer. Adrenalin 22.9.1 has a problem with it but the latest UWP driver (newer as a version - 31.0.12027.2005) is OK.

Just choose "Shader (2-Pass) Linczos 3" (or whatever you want) as a workaround (but this will break the 10-bit color I think).

But yes - there is something wrong with the driver 22.9.1.

I did my test with PotPlayer and 22.9.1 (from the previous post) on the same Win11 build - 22621.607 (manually installed because the official build is 22621.521).

PotPlayer uses D3D11 for decoding and rendering, not D3D9 (of course it could be configured to use D3D9 if it's necessary).

    AMD doesn't use 9on12.

I just ran the exe file and it updated fine.
But I had one driver timeout while playing a youtube video yesterday.
However, this time it was not an unrecoverable freeze.
    It automatically recovered.
Before the update it didn't automatically recover and the win + shift + strg + b combo didn't work either.
    Now, it works.
And the flashing while hovering over youtube thumbnails seems to be fixed too.
    Atleast, some improvement.

that combo is not a driver reset, it triggers black screen diagnostics which has no connection to the driver reset system at all.

Restart.exe from CRU is the best driver RESTART* utility I found.

    Uh?
Why does the combo restart/reload the GPU driver then?
Well can't use the restart.exe from CRU when the entire screen is frozen.

    //edit
It discards desktop surface buffers and re-allocates DWM?

I think it kills and restarts the GPU driver.

DWM is killed/started by Explorer.exe, but I'm guessing here.
