    Hopefully a 7800/xt is spicy.
Maybe even get a 7700xt if its faster then a 6950xt but I doubt it would be.

Well, for sure my hopes of getting a 7xxx serie GPU around $200-250 capable of gaming at 2K, will be crushed again.

I'll need to see both Nvidia and AMD offerings before making my decision, so I hope they will be released close to each other. And that the mainstream cards won't be pushed into distant quarters of '23.

Looks like a Xmas build for me, NV, AMD and Intel will all have their cards on the table by then, i suspect as it did with my 3090/Ti or 6900xt purchase it will all be down to availability.

i'm excited even though my 6900xt was bought in April.

typically i retire the prev. gen to a system that i only casually game on in my office or den.
and i'll probably do that w/ the 6900xt too (luckily the other systems are w/c too..as i have a liquid devil).
but not in november. i've been saving my pennies and i haven't gone on a vacation since Covid 19 just for buying a new rig and new OLED monitor.

chances are with this kind of massive generational uplift that the 7800XT will be better than my 6900XT and if so i'll finally stop gaming at 2k (been waiting on monitors) .

this year will finally be the year for decent 4k gaming considering the availability of GPUs to drive them (both new and last gen) and finally 4k monitors/TVs worth a damn

I'm hoping both this and the RTX 4000 series will be underwhelming so I can just buy last-gen parts for a discount.
    Same goes for CPUs.

It's just getting harder and harder to justify these prices. I want to upgrade but it's a bitter pill to swallow when a new/modern 1080p GPU costs as much as what I paid for my ancient R9 290.

You might still get your wish due to demand but I very much doubt this is going to be underwhelming since both AMD and Nvidia are moving to new nodes that offer almost 2x transistor densities.

EDIT: Just got numbers and its 2.8x denser. Whoa.

*sigh* I know you're right. Both AMD and Nvidia also seemed to have done more than just a die shrink too. And with Intel so far behind, they're not really going to put much of a dent in pricing. I've hardly kept my hopes up.

Unless they invested in good small designs, the price will be screwed.
My RX580 is 232mm2 but that for today's market comes out expensive.
RX 6500XT is useless at 107mm2 and still absurdly expensive for what it is.
I'm hopeful, but scared its more overpriced tech.

When it comes to mid range GPUs, AMD have historically delivered. I foresee the 7000 series as being no different.

Haven't used an AMD GPU since the RX 290. If AMD is competitive, I might go back and give it a shot.

Going to replace my aging 1070, hopefully we get some game worth playing soon.. Power efficiency is going to play a big role in what card i will pick next, electricity cost has gone up several 100% here, it's crazy. Looks like RDNA 3 will take the lead in power efficiency this gen.

A bit longer to wait, but really hoping for a kick-ass generation which will move a lot of market share away from nGreedia.
    It's about damn time !

i've bought some AMD i thought was interesting (and was within use parameters) like the Vega 64, but it took the 6900XT to move Nvidia out of my gaming system.

right now i'm very interested in Nvidia's tech - i see it as the highwater mark of monolithic die technology - but Nvidia has done many things even this week that have put a bad taste in my mouth that aren't directly related to the technology.

but i have have a hi tech boner for the ages for MCM

How does that logic work? If the new gen is underwhelming, it means the old gen keeps it value better. If the new gen is overwhelming, the old gen suddenly turns into trash (figuratively speaking) and thus becomes inexpensive. Shouldn't that be how it works?
