Nice image of the CPU in the mobo?
Hmm, looks Lamborghini. Designed the heat sink. Noice. :)

$480 for 8c/16t that's ridiculous. add overpriced ddr5 on top of that.

Zen 4 will be on the expensive side, it seems.

I can only hope this is some pricing error or a placeholder.

Very few times CPU prices were in reality lower than the announced prices, at launch day/retail availability.
I am in no way, shape or form in need for an CPU upgrade. Maybe, GPU.
    But I'll wait and see.

Those prices make no sense unless AMD doesn`t want to sell CPUs anymore...

It is a bit baffling to be honest. These are pandemic shortage prices. AMD is a bit out of touch here - unless they are going to drop a massive performance improvement, which by all accounts is unlikely to happen. It'll be interesting to see how Intel responds to this with their launch.

If the performance is higher (maybe), and the power lower than intel (not hard), then they can justify charging that. If not, then no.

Seems these prices are vendor's marked.

Not necessarily MSRP, but I expect them to be more than most hope.

Its either a mistake by canadian vendor or cpus are that fast so amd is confident selling them at premium.

    in before 7600x + a 16g ddr5 kit costs 500eur and beats 170eur 12400f running on old ddr4 by 10-15% in gaming

Good thing I didn't take the rumours seriously, I could have sworn the 7000 lineup were going to have a few more core / thread count. Not that it's needed for the 7950x but I thought it was going to help justify this pricing.

    1) these are Canadian prices.
the entire population of Canada is about the size of California
they have a completely different import schedule (fees/taxes) than the US or anywhere else.
because of the size of Canada and its limited population, distribution costs are higher (like Hawaii or Alaska).
these are not car parts or cars, these are CPUs which have had several stops in several countries before they get to Canada.
    2) after adjusting for currency (which was charted in article) i fully expect the U.S. price to be roughly 10-12% lower... so that Ryzen 5 would be $299.
    3) it's harder to penalize distributors in smaller markets. you may notice none of these leaks/shenanigans are happening in the US - the fear of God is upon them (whether AMD, Nvidia, or Intel flavored deity)

  17. That is exactly 20% more than I expected. I hope they're wrong.

These Canadian prices listed are around the same launch price of the 5xxx AMD line up,with one exception the
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X is the same price listed as the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X was selling for on release.

    not-so-fast Speedy Gonzales.
you're absolutely correct about some sales channels, but not all or the largest.

imho, this is far worse in Europe/Middle East than the rest of the world. and also you get into the issue of what's Gray Market (unauthorized sales, typically w/o warranty) and the Fair Market (all warranties honored).
some may already see the difference in Euro zone (i.e. Germany & France are least affected vs. Southern Europe). in some states in the US warranties are honored regardless of the dealer...but then you have to find an authorized repair facility and shipping is rarely included.
and in the meantime the same thing happens every generation @ EOL - deal seekers find deals and the highest prices pay the penalty for greed.

stop and peruse the thought that the worst scalpers who refuse the reality of the market are left with very expensive stock on their hands with virtually no demand (in face of the new gen).
    This Is A Penalty.

and it hasn't changed. this used to happen in brick and mortar too (although not scalped per se but never dropping below MSRP) and the bigger retailers wouldn't say a thing if you didn't know which model was newer.

this is where the 5800X3d starts to look like a deal.
