So, aside the fact it uses all cores fully of Alder Lake (I'm 12900K), is there any reason aside 'shiny and new' to actually go from 10 to 11? What are your experiences of 11, and was it worth it over 10? Thanks.
i may go back to win10 cuz of color banding on win 11 and the lack of supporting drag and drop to taskbar feature.
Erm. I suppose it's because the UI and OS is faster overall. Less clutter. For the pro version at least, I don't know about the home version.
Windows 11 just feel smoother and more responsive and with directstorage it would be obvious why one would swap os.
Supposedly the CPU scheduler is a tiny smidge better (especially for asymmetrical Intel style CPUs iirc) and DirectStorage will apparently function better on Win11 than Win10 (though it will be compatible with Win10). Other than those things, I personally prefer the design of Win10 -- it really bugs me how they make me click "more options" to see the old shortcuts when right clicking and the rounded corners not being able to be toggled OFF is also something I'm not fond of myself.
It has newer kernel and in one of last cumulative updates there was some major DirectX bug fixed. Of course most of significant fixes get backported to Windows 10 but still IMHO you should always run latest OS version (not necessarily latest build)
If W12 came out today, all the w10 lovers would suddenly become w11 lovers, its just a thing that people feel the need to express something new is not as good as the thing it replaces. This happens with almost everything in almost every job.
I'd count myself an exception - I loathe Windows 10 and would go back to 7 in an instant if it had DX12 properly. I like reliable, not new.
CPU schedule was the one thing I was referring to in the OP re: CPU and cores. 11 being supposedly better with the 'efficiency' cores than 10.
Cant say ive ever had an issue with W11, or W10 for that matter, i think the vast majority of issues are due to people messing with the OS or conflicts with other software or hardware.
Windows 11 still had performance issues with Oculus VR last month (July 2022). Was trying to debug Blade & Sorcery performance, and although it had less frame drops overall, the bug is with the compositor dropping frames continuously (V43 PTC, console window visibility didn't help). W11 by itself with desktop interactions felt more responsive than 10 LTSC 19041/2021. Flat game performance was about the same. It's not worth it to me, and I really want it to be because I like using up-to-date operating systems. VR performance is the main reason I'm not using it, but outside of that the taskbar is annoying with the icon view for open windows, combining, and lack-of ability to hide the clock. And context menus having to need another interaction is also annoying. I've dealt with Vista and 8 at launch and use GNOME on Linux; I know how to handle UX changes and adapt to them well, but 11 is just outright unproductive with the changes and limitations it has. The one thing I like about 11 is that I can set Windows Terminal to the default Terminal. On 10 currently, I just pin it to Taskbar for quick access. Sounds similar situation with the Ryzen scheduler improvements in 1903, but they weren't back-ported to 1809 which was the last LTSC. With a 2700X it made zero difference. I jump on new things and have given 11 many chances from leaks, betas, stable, and insider dev builds. I upgrade my distros with the latest release as soon as the images hit the servers, and have ran rolling-release distros with unattended daily updates. I run websites that automatically pull in Git changes from master branches daily, also unattended. I'm all about using new things and can use them as long as they at least perform similar to how the old version did. 11 is the first OS I've had this much trouble trying to switch to.
Here is a good benchmark comparison https://babeltechreviews.com/windows-11-vs-windows-10-performance-analysis/ It's somewhat mixed bag, mostly favours win11, but some titles lose by min fps, I might switch soon, but I really dislike some gui changes.
Install Windows 11 ghost spectrum to get the BEST gaming performance. Perfect for "potato" computers. There isn't really need to use Win 11 over win 10. I use win 11 on 5950x and 12900k. On my 10900k, 7980xe and 1950x computers, I use windows 10. My server is Ubuntu.
