Lets bring some light into what are gloomy times for many. Was quite happy to see this bit of news: A beacon of hope’: Ukraine, Russia sign grain export deal ISTANBUL (AP) — Russia and Ukraine signed separate agreements Friday with Turkey and the United Nations clearing the way for exporting millions of tons of desperately needed Ukrainian grain — as well as Russian grain and fertilizer — ending a wartime standoff that had threatened food security around the globe. The deal will enable Ukraine — one of the world’s key breadbaskets — to export 22 million tons of grain and other agricultural products that have been stuck in Black Sea ports due to Russia’s invasion. U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres called it “a beacon of hope” for millions of hungry people who have faced huge increases in food costs...

Pretty much, one should never trust the words of an invasive species. But hey, we need to look on the bright side... it will result in more support for getting rid of the invasive species.
Yeah, I suppose this is better than nothing at all. If it doesn't collapse any further. Honestly, all I can imagine is thousands of young men, each clutching a rifle, huddled in a trench, or a dugout, or a demolished building. Half of them are asking themselves, "Why is my country being invaded?" The other half are wondering, "Why am I here, invading this country?" And, my heart aches for all of them. I've read how the concept of "Push-button Warfare" became to be envisioned following the end of World War 2. The Future of Warfare. Just push some buttons, close a switch or two, and your adversary will be vanquished. While there is undoubtedly truth contained within that notion, it strikes me that it is the individual soldiers who are the actual buttons being pushed. And, what a horrific waste of the youth of two nations that represents.

When you think about it once Ukraine cleans out the south of the country it's going to be so much safer for shipping in the area.
China has decided to abandon the practice of "abstaining" when voting in the UN on documents with harsh language regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Chinese delegation voted in favour of the General Assembly resolution calling Russia an "aggressor," according to data published by Iceland's mission to the UN. The resolution also calls for "compensation for the damage" inflicted on the victims of Russian military aggression, and "to bring to justice all those who are guilty of violating the norms of international law." In addition to China, Kazakhstan and all other post-Soviet republics voted for the document, except for Tajikistan and Uzbekistan (they abstained). The countries that Russian government calls "friendly" (India, Brazil and Turkey) have also voted for the document. (1848) INSIDE RUSSIA - YouTube
In order to have any leverage in global diplomacy, you need either powerful friends, or something valuable that other will bargain over. Russia is fast running out of both.
