So long story short, I am on a budget and am coming from an RX480. I am leaning the Geforce 3060Ti, but I am not thrilled about that 8GB of RAM, especially if I'm going to have the card for a few years. Also, I mainly want to game at 1440 and have no interest in 4K at this time. So maybe the 8GB would be plenty? And I must say, I do like the look of that Nvidia DLSS technology! Anyway, I'm between these two at the price point I can afford.

    Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB (192-bit)

    or...

    GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB (256-bit)

Just get the cheapest one that has the best cooling

    easy choice really
    get dlss
if you pick cards according to value, you can't afford to get the same card without it.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with the GeForce this time around. That DLSS sounds like the way to go. Plus, I don't think the 8GB vs 12GB will be as much of an issue, because from what I'm reading, Nvidia is more efficient at making use of the memory on hand than the AMD equivalent. And for 1440P gaming, I don't foresee going over 8GB much, if any. Atleast for some time anyway.

    it's enough for now
you're going to need a better cpu too

FX-8320 is your current cpu? Good grief you need to upgrade as not only will that be a massive bottleneck for that level of card, it will also be a playable bottleneck as that cpu is not capable of maintaining 60 fps in most modern games. Heck it will not even average 60 fps in plenty of games and even an entry level modern cpu would be 2 to 2.5 times faster.

    12100f is 100usd and it's pretty amazing. pair that with a h610 and 3200 c16 ram and you're getting 2.5-3x of that 8320 under 250 dollars.

There is no way I would get a 4 core/ 8 thread cpu at this point especially if he is going to keep it anywhere near as long as his current cpu.

compared to 8320 it's night and day.
but 12400f is a better option, ryzen 5500 too.

Yes but it would be a relatively short term solution with a 12100f as that cpu is already hitting close to full utilization at times in some games even now. The 12400f is the absolute minimum intel cpu I would suggest for anyone running a current mid range or better gpu that does not want to upgrade for a few years.

still, spending 100usd on 12100f makes a thousand times more sense than keeping an fx8 that was my point

If CPU then pick 8/16 only and upwards..... No time for less.
3060Ti (or if you can 3070) is the better choice.

Dlss is a huge selling point for nvidia but raytracing not really. There is only few games worth playing others not so much. In the future 3060ti rt performance will be subpar.

As for 6700xt extra vram will come in handy in the future as some games already have issues with 8gb even at 1440p.

  18. 3060Ti has a notable advantage with GPU encoding, along with being able to use CUDA. The encoding support is particularly important for some VR headsets.

Just remember that the RRP for these cards when they first game out was close to $400.
So, imo, it may well be worth sitting on the fence until next gen or unless there is a gpu price crash back to rrp or less.

Agree with others that fx3820 is a disaster now. Seen it on a friends pc, once he combined that rx480 with my old i5 10500 everything runs smooth incl desinty2, bf1, borderlands3, and what not, those are just a few he tried recently, before that it was a stutter low fps drops fest
