  2. Cool that theyve released it but im not really worried when current gen cards can barely saturate pcie 2.0 x16 let alone pcie 3.0 x16. Hopefully this will help encourage the likes of nvidia/amd to develop cards with more grunt....but i think we will all be held back until consoles up their ante before anything drastic happens.

    The x24, AFAIK, is designed for riser cards.

    It allows you to have more daughter slots on the riser card before your bandwidth suffers.

    Would make sense: 3 x 8 = 24. You get 3 x8 links out of it on a riser card...

    Intel is also releasing the new Xeon Phi co-processor (60 cores, 240 threads) on a PCIe X24 daughter board. The model number is 5120D.

    Probably won't see consumer, PCI-E 3.1 is out, but probably won't be utilised, PCI-E 4.0 is already 'out' (but yet to be utilised and finalised).
