Another stupid decision from this stupid burocratic EU... Isn't more important things to think about? I can found many one myself.
The more it advance in time the more it act like soviet burocratic system, and i know what i am typing, i lived on both.
We might think about it, and what we want for EU.

Enough with this tripe. Most EU politicians are either directly elected (parliament) or appointed by people you elected (commision).

Also yeah, lets go back to the good old days where you had a drawer of 25 different charging cables and you still at times could not find the one you wanted to.

    Democracy at its finest.
Some will agree, some will opose.
Let's see what this can bring to the table.
In my case, for all devices 5 smartphones and 1 tablet, its a relief.
If I would buy new devices, having the same charging port, it would be just the thing.
Someone can do some math about having a huge chunk of Europeans NOT buying more chargers...and can easily see less metal, plastic and packaging wasted.

Maybe sell less and lose business. Does the lose outweighs all benefits?

This is a measure that protects consumers and reduces waste.
Good to see the EU making good decisions like this one.

Some guys in tech are celebrating to have one charging port to troubleshoot and fix.

  9. Yep, finally an EU law that I can agree with. This USB connector madness was getting out of hand. And the type-C is just great.

EU Parliament is directly elected by People from EU countries with a preference system. The EU has many critical points, but not how people are elected, no dumb US Senate system here.
Do you know what a committee is?
Less waste, no more proprietary closed connectors. All consumer wins.

Will be interesting to see how will this work with laptops requiring charges above 18-35W..

If necessary, the USB type C standard can go much higher than that.

Sure but you need a proper adaptor (and a quality cable). I fear USB Forum will just create another useless mindfucking clusterfuck of new USB versions.

So what? If a company makes a laptop that requires a high power delivery, they can bundle the respective charger.

There is no perfect solution, but this one has simply more points than other.
    And the rest will adapt.

Smart move. Whether or not my "government" will follow it or adopt a more patriotic, British connector is another matter entirely...

They will make the electrons travel on the left side of the cable and rate the power requirements in eel pies per pint.

Yes it is the same than commitee in that time... (btw it is not elected directely by European citizen as you might think)
The problem isn't the standardisation, it is to force a standardisation.
If you need some special voltage (exemple 19V wich is also a standard) you need to level up the voltage (extra cost, extra component), and what about when we will need more W than what can be transfered by USB C? same problem... even more when we are reaching it faster than with old USB normalisation.

Standardisation is done by users, not by some people that decided it, or we would all be with BTX form factor motherboard, with PCI HD connector...
Also USB C doesn't need EU to dominate the market, but we need freedom to think about when USB C with be obsolete.
With EU system consumer doesn't win most of the time

Phones already charge over +100W, don't know what point are you trying to make here.
PS: There are prototypes for +200W fast charge.

100 % on board with this and especially USB C.
As far as I understand this by extension means all CE certified devices - which is mandatory for selling in the ETA area - must have USB C type charging port.
