Use studio driver if you want up to date standard version since you're not gaming,
The last standard game ready driver is 472.12.

Like many other have said thanks. It's really appreciated
It's a real shame but not that surprising that you can't choose what you want to install with default drivers.

Did anyone here have issues with the 512.77 they installed fine after a restart it wouldn't load the driver saying it wasn't digitally signed or something and to reinstall or disable driver signature enforcement

I'm guessing these are safe to use and something just triggers the check with it being a dch driver or something ?

Soon as i disabled driver signature enforcement driver loaded fine no issue

Can anyone tell me what the hell Nvidia are doing with their drivers?

My friend has a 3080Ti and a 5950X CPU. He was playing Metro Exodus Enhanced and whilst getting excellent frames his CPU temps were reaching 89C!!!! During gaming! Cyberpunk also was around 85C!!!

I noticed he was running stock Nvidia drivers and their were TONS and TONS of Nvidia instances running in the background (easily 10-12 processes).

I uninstall his drivers with DDU in safe mode and reinstalled them (stock). And his temps were still the exact same. So I downloaded this clean driver version and again ran DDU in safe mode and install them. Now he has only 2-3 Nvidia processes running in the background but now his CPU temps are 63C whilst playing Metro Exodus Enhanced with a max 74C spike only when loading the game up.

What could this of been? Geforce experience? Telemetry?

The drop in temps is pretty damn insane from just moving from stock to clean drivers. Will point out that his GPU the Asus TUF 3080Ti was running exceptionally well and pretty damn cool too with 65C max during about 2 hours of Metro much cooler than my 6800XT and over 2x the performance too.

But Nvidia seem to be doing something strange with the drivers as even after a clean install of the stock drivers the CPU temps were the same so it couldn't have been a setting my friend had accidently enabled.

nothing, your friend should fix their airflow.

Processes Open =/= Processes doing things.

Fractal Design Torrent case with 2x 180mm fans at the front, 3x 140mm fans at the bottom, and a Noctua NH-D15 with 2x 140mm fans.

He has probably some of the best airflow much better than in my own case. His 3080Ti runs at 65C pretty much max the whole time when gaming. And his room is pretty cool as well not being in direct sun light.

Please explain to me why going from stock to clean drivers instantly seemed to reduce his temps by over 10C and why was there over 12-15 Nvidia processes running in the background?

Like I said we even clean installed the stock drivers and everything was the same, when we installed the clean drivers he only had 2 Nvidia processes running and his temps plummeted.

My only explanation is that he has never done a clean GPU driver install, he never even knew what DDU was. Or Nvidia messed something up somewhere.

Did he install on top without clean install selected in the past?
That might have triggered a borked installation between two or more major driver revisions, only a full cleanup can fix it at that point.
