As an 'ex' PC user and now owner of a gamer laptop (Lenovo Legion 5@RTX 3070) I cannot imagine how next gen mobile GPU will perform.
If those rumours are correct the power consumption will go throught the roof this time with next gen, but laptops are different stories, the max TDP should not exceed more than 150W, otherwise the heat transfer will became an issue and throttling.
I just hope there will be some nice GPUs for mobile gamers too.

Underclock 10% and they'll probably pull half the power. I think the green is for greed and not actually being ecological.

Underclock 10% and you loose performance crown to competition.

The best sign that the new series is coming is the fact that the 30xx cards are now available on the shelves.
Max power consumption is done while gaming or other data crunching processes.
Unless gaming hours a day (which I once did), the majority of the time, cards are drawing a fraction of max power.

What happened to those times where the goal was to reduce power consumption while increasing performance... What an irony, a few years ago those microchip companies were the ones to focus on reducing/optimizing energy consumption, while the politics completely ignored it. Now politics turned to focus on that matter, while microchip companies don't anymore (At least Nvidia seemingly doesn't care).

    Yup i agree @TalentX
Few years back it was looking like low powa was gonna be the thing
    I'd be happy with a 3080 12g, underclocked using 250w max
3080 paired with 1440p is more than enough for my tired eyes.
I could see myself looking at 40 series in a couple years perhaps, right now tho a 3080 would be ideal and be future proof for my uses.

    ZzZzZz...

It's only the halo products consuming alot of power, and that has always been the case. x70 and lower doesn't, which is what the vast majority of people buys.

It wont. These designs will be more efficient than prior years. They will still keep the TDP's low for laptops and you will still see perf increases.

If you didn't need it now the GPU that performs like a 3080 from the 4xxx series will be much lower power like a 4060.

I'm more afraid of the prices than the performance (which should be good considering 5nm). nVidia has clearly shown that 1500-2000€ is an OK price for high-end.

Do i need to start the construction of the mini nuclear reactor needed for powering these beasts or i wait a bit?. My neighbours are a bit reticent with the instalation of the reactor in my house. :p:p

X70 class cards will also consume 250-300w. Thats off putting to many people.

Have feeling the extra power draw for these cards is Nvidia OC'ing the crap out of them in order to beat the competition.

Isnt case with ampere too? I mean 3090 could easily be 300-350w if there was no 6900xt to compete with.

I dont think it will be more than 250 watts max, and x60 will be down below 200w. I dont think it will be an issue tbh - more so just for the people looking to be outraged and offended,

Nope, 350W is actually the sweetspot for the 3090 on the efficiency curve, after passing 350W efficiency will suffer.
