Review: MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X

I think a few people will be caught out by the 3090ti. Removing 450W of heat is not a trivial task.

 

This card stock power efficiency is horrible

 

Depends on many factors.

 

We'll need to have desktop cases again if this continues. Or rotate the internals 90 degrees so the GPU is no longer horisontal.

Ive used a thin piece of aluminium tubbing to prop up the GPU since i first got my 1080Ti.

 

At this rate even something like RTX 4060 will be a 300w GPU..
I told to myself that I can go as high as 350-400w for a GPU alone, so looks like my next upgrade will be RX 7800 XT which is rumored to be a 350w GPU.

I don't see how. It's not like they are producing a new chip here, it's just a full GA102 -- they probably have a bunch of these already. On top of that the 3090 is outselling a 6700XT 2 to 1. Let's say this makes it to half a 6700XT by the time it's replaced by 4K series.. that's probably more than worth it for Nvidia. It's not like there's much cost/R&D going into this chip outside of the PCB/power delivery.. which everyone is saying is ia test bed for next generation cards anyway. Every card sold is basically like a free $500 for them.

From a mass consumer standpoint it's a dumb card but there's probably enough ultra rich people who don't give a frack to support it.

All these news articles about 3090 Ti just too funny. I personally dont care for this useless card. The 4090 will destroy this in ~6-8 months...

I wont get a card needing that much power or costs that much, especially 1/2 a year before next gen.

This is such a terrible product. Guess if you are a nvidia fanboy and stupid rich, buy it.

 

23% difference in price of 6900xt strix LC VS 3090 ti Strix LC here in Norway, so it looks like you are cherrypicking the prizes.....

 

You are cherry picking too.
The prices here are:
6900xt around 10.000 Danish kr AIB (amd direct 1.100€)
3090 ti 17.900kr - 25.000kr

Komplett.no has a much higher price difference then 23% between them also.

Personally I would not touch a Asus AMD card, the Vega 64 and the 5700xt both Strix, had coolers that was falling of the card, they needed rubber bands or some other anti sagging to keep VRM contact.
The Asus clocking software to control the fans and RGB was fighting against the AMD driver, so the fans stopped until the card hit 75 degrees, then full fan speed until 60 and then fan off again.
Asus themselves recommended to delete the Asus software, they did not bother with fixing the problem and when asking about bad VRM temps they just wrote that the card was working as intended.

 

Anybody buying a 3090Ti and leaving the aircooler on is a belter.
