Im quite tempted by the 5900x for £400 but im going to hold off and see what the price 5800x 3d comes in at, given that im already running a 5800x with my rtx3070 and that already gives me solid vsync of 60fps... an extra 5-10 fps seems a bit of a pointless.

Doing the same thing here. I too have a 5800x that serves me well and I could snag a 5950x. But I am thinking the 58003dx will do me more good than the extra cores at this point.

Same, however I have a 2700x. I say wait, it still has a way to go before it competes with Intel. Australian $:

This is a perfect example of competition and where both camps have pros and cons, and prices are coming down. I hope AMD and Intel are closely matched into the future.

I've never understood why fanboys want "their" team to be dominant....

Exactly, it's just more idle cores. Better off with a better IPC

Great CPU but it´s still a good chunk of money.

But i´ve the 5900x on sale many times below the 500€ mark, seems a better buy.

I'm watching the prices, waiting for an 5800x under 300€ to finally upgrade from my old FX8320 :D

    Damn that's a good price.
    5950x 32gb would last years.

slightly easier to cool but if you're doing any editing, compilation, or transcoding the 5950x is worth it.
but not if you're not doing it which helps the 5800x as a monster gaming/multitasking cpu/ the odd duck is the 5900x, but if you see it cheap by all means buy it and temps are in the middle of 5800x and 5950x

I have never wanted either company to be dominate because that results in higher prices. I prefer a close competition to keep prices lower.

I certainly have my preferences but market domination is rarely a good thing.

with a 5950x and an nvidia gpu you can :
    - play your game
    - stream on twitch using nvenc or h264
    - record a high quality local movie for youtube or floatplane using h264 or nvenc
all that at the same time..I tried..I have zero viewers but I did it "for fun" and you can absolutely do it...expect a good 800watts at the psu tough with an rtx 3080+

also X570 is way better than Z690 way more useable lanes without "fake" asmedia SATA ports and pcie slots you can't use like Intel still does crazy that they didn't get the hint when everyone left them for amd

the 5800X at $350 is almost low enough to make me get one instead of waiting for X3D pricing to upgrade my 3700X. though if I needed that many cores $600 for the 5950 is still great.

I have both 5950x and 12900k. I find no reason to use my 5950x over 12900k when the gamingperformance is way better on 12900k. Maybe because I'm running 7000c30 ddr5 on 12900k :p

I have Optane 905p in the last pci-e x16 slot on the Apex z690. Tell mye why x570 is way better :)
It's like saying x299 is way better than x570, because of the quad channel memory and more pci-e lanes LOL
