Hi, As the title. Im thinking of going from 32Gb (4x8Gb 3200Mhz C16) to 64Gb (4x16Gb 3600Mhz C18) Ill then put this 32Gb set to my son's rig Rest of the specs 10900K stock Z490E RTX3080 I game at 3840x1600. (Alienware AW3821DW) and Rig is mainly for gaming and some light 2D cad work some creative but not heavy workload like Photoshop, sketchup, powerpoint/indesign I know FPS likely wont improve, but what can I expect with such an upgrade? snappier feeling?
you will be able to open more pages at the same time, the system caches more things in ram, it will improve if you are a heavy user if you don't open a lot of app and don't open 300 pages in firefox maybe it wouldn't change anything with 64gb you can turn off swap
Thanks! Say im the average user when it comes to browsing (my Chrome would maybe have 5 tabs), I close Chrome or any other running app when I game If I dont open a lot of apps at the same time, will I experience a more snappy performance for my system? I know gains may be minimal but I just want to manage my expectations. Thanks!
You can't if you actually want to use the 64GB, as you will run out of virtual memory before without swap on Windows.
You can expect exactly zero difference... If you are going to actually upgrade your pc, then get some considerably faster ram...
he will be able to open more virtual machines if he uses he will be able to create virtual machines with plenty of memory too
400$ for such a kit. Surely not worth it. https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-Trid...ywords=ddr4+ram+4000mhz&qid=1644077791&sr=8-9
If you are looking at it from a value perspective, it's not worth it for him to upgrade at all. But for him to actually see a performance difference, it would have to be a 4000 cl18 kit or better.
So its about the speed then? Cos was thinking about these sets https://www.amazon.sg/Corsair-Venge...b&qid=1644108197&sprefix=4x16g,aps,226&sr=8-2 https://www.amazon.sg/Corsair-Domin...&qid=1644108197&sprefix=4x16g,aps,226&sr=8-19
Unless you have a specific use for having that much memory there really is no reason for it..... 32GB in current day is a lot for normal use.
