No thanks I stay with 446.14 for my 1080ti
I get consistently better performance with these compared to anything else
In doom eternal its a difference of 120fps and 95fps at a heavy scene.

I've been having those black screen flickering for a couple months now. Always knew its a driver issue and not my monitor.

Well it's common knowledge that new nvidia drivers are only made for the newest gen, even if older gens officially support it, they either dont gain anything from it, or as you say, lose performance.

Its hardly "common knowledge", the idea that nvidia gimps old hw with new drivers has been debunked so many times since it is very easy to test and debunk.

Didnt we already clarify pascal gpus are underperforming for a while now? Thats clearly not gimping but a strange otherworldly occurrence.

People praise the 1080ti and its a good long lasting card but i remember when it was at rtx2080 level. Today its slower than 2070.

New drivers are optimised for the latest generation of cards. Maybe going back to an old driver would sort that?

They don't go out of their way to gimp them, they just don't optimise them any more. The end effect is the same - GPUs start performing worse than they did when bought new - which they absolutely should not.

No, thats just you making things up to suit some weird agenda.

Pascal has no more juice to give in things like RDR2.

But it does have more juice to give in forza 5 and Far cry 6 but it struggles for some reason. Its strange seeing vega56 outperforming 1080.

    lol
you mean you and the other red team scholars on this site
then thank you for your clarifications

pascal lacks fp16,fp32+int32,vrs,memory bandwidth is lower compared to g6 cards too.it's performing as well as it can without them.
    it's vega that gets the shaft.6800XT outperrforms even a 3090 here,but v56 slower than 1070 ? that is a new low.

There's a very simple way to test this, and it's one I've been using for a long time now every time I feel there are driver shenanigans at play - install older drivers, run benchmark, compare results. That's all there is to it. I have a driver repository going back over a decade for that exact reason. Anyone need 185.85?

common knowledge ever since they got found out ;)

only joking. driver stagnation on newer hardware is a given as newer software takes advantage of features that newer hardware has further expanding their gap to their earlier equivilant cards from previous generations. Basically if a card is EOL don't expect any fixes or improvements and don't complain when a previously on paper "weaker" gpu outperforms yours in newer games with newer drivers.

not the best game to show off but we get the point :p

you hit the nail on the head.

for example, the 1080Ti was around the same performance as a 2080super when the 2080super released. But this is basing the cards off games that were already out in the wild and therefore were targeted for cards with a 1080Ti's features in mind.

now flashforward to today and games have gotten more advanced and are using new features that the 1080Ti doesn't have or was always weak at. Therefore its performance drops in newer games thanks to devs using newer things like you mentioned like more bandwidth, vrs, fp32+int32 operations, etc, etc and not to forget ray tracing and more advanced and developed DLSS too.

That's why you test new drivers with old games and compare them with your old results.
