When you write a line like "The top-of-the-line Lovelace model potentially requires even more energy than the RTX 3090" is that meant to be a good thing or a bad thing? It isn't written as fact or potential fact because the inflection word "even" is added instead of straight info reported. When I read that I think "good, needs more energy to perform". I think some read a requirement for more energy as a bad thing.

Looks like a typo. Should probably have read " ... requires even more energy...". Changes the meaning though.

How much 3080 is faster than a 2080 at the same power?

3090 performance at 240w, 10w for every GB. Am I asking too much?:confused:

What's with power consumption going backwards lately?

Cause they have no clue how to improve performance with out more TDP obviously. OR maybe they fiqure out why bother to putt effort in when the cards will sell out reguardless the price.

Pick which answer insults the less. I have no intressed in 3xxx series and now the 4xxx if the TDP is just gona keep going up. Wake me when we have 150TDP cards again that are mid range. To think i had issue with my 1070ti pulling 170TDP+

Already speculation about power usage while we're 2 years away, what a joke.

Gives Intel about a year to sell their new GPUs. More competition, more competitive pricing.

Still thinking if I should wait for these Intel GPUs or purchase an RTX 3000 series card when prices will hopefully simmer down by Q4, this year. Really need to upgrade my 1070 especially since I'm into VR now.

The basic 3080ti have come down to 1499 € here, so I got one. First big upgrade my PC has seen in 6 years. Not exactly happy with the price, but it was time. I've already skipped the 10 series, because even two 1080ti SLI wouldn't have been faster than my TRI-SLI 980ti were. I've skipped the 20 series, even though one 980ti had died by then, because single 2080ti would still have been slower than my remaining 980ti SLI and 20 series SLI was way too expensive. The 3080ti is finally at least a little bit faster than my TRI-980ti were back in the day. With it I also got a bigger framebuffer, DLSS and raytracing. My i7 5960X is surprisingly not bottlenecking it most of the time, I'm playing at 3840x1600. So this setup will be good again for the next 2-3 years at least, at which point the crisis should be over and a completely new machine is in order.

This is what I've been saying, that when NV/AMD competition heats up, they are no longer content with architectural improvements, process shrinks. They are turning on the power taps to extract every last bit of performance to get top spot on benchmark charts.

p.s funny they are using a famous 70s porn actress name for their new gen (Linda Lovelace).

Wow incredible that you got it at that price. The utmost cheapest and worst 3080Ti here in Norway is now the Gigabyte eagle at 1700 Euro. The Asus rog strix is 2250 Euro!! I thought my 3080 was expensive for 1100 when i got but but oh no :p

This is what it's like here, sorted from cheapest at the top, prices rising.

You know why power usage is going up? multi chiplet dies two gpu dies fused together obviously two dies require more power than one die. Basically all intents an purposes it's hardware based sli/crossfire done at the die level so no software/driver optimization required really, downside obviously power consumption is climbing.
