Soo...... When I turn my computer on now one of the fans makes a very loud noisy sound for about 3 - 5 minutes and then it goes back to normal? Any ideas on this? I am not sure exactly which fan is making the racket.

peel off the sticker, pop the rubber cap off the bearing well and oil it.

if theres no cap, try removing the rotor from the frame and clean any crap out of there.

It literally took me all night fiddling with wires and settings to get the wired connection and wireless connection working. There are just so many settings and I don't know what any of them do! o_O

I cannot get the wireless 5g connection to work? It doesn't seem to show the 5g network as an option. Everything else seems to be working ok I think.

did you buy grey market perhaps?, the unit might be attempting to use Channels higher than your region allows.

I bought it directly from Best Buy, so I doubt that it's grey market?
I am probably doing something wrong, just can't figure it out.

it could also be a legitimately defective unit, try using inSSIDer to check what wifi networks are operating.

I don't think my computer has WiFi, just a lan port connection. I do have the P8Z77-V PRO motherboard which I think did come with a wifi go adapter but I don't think it was ever installed and I certainly have no idea where the box is at this point.

So I finally got it to work. Just kept playing with the settings. Probably didn't do something right originally. Thank you.

So what's my next upgrade for this build?

    1) Power Supply. Assuming it is the original, it's not a bad idea (after this many years) to change that out. Decent, "Gold" rated 550w-650w PSUs can often be bought on sale for $50ish. (avoid anything super cheap, stick to known brands)

    2) CPU / motherboard / ram. Something like a recent i5 (10 / 11 / 12 series) with 16 or 32 gb of ram. ~$300 at minimum, ~$500 would cover it with the latest i5, a more robust board and more ram.

**(NOTE) - some fancier motherboards have the latest wifi / bluetooth built in, but if not, a PCI-E wifi 6 card can add this functionality. (USB wifi adapters also work fine)

    3) New case. ("Treat yo self")

...4) NVME drive. After upgrading to a new motherboard (option 2), you could then run nvme drives. Replace any bulky, loud, mechanical drives with nvme drive(s). You could run one now, but it would need a PCI-E adapter and would be speed limited (but still faster than your SSDs)
