Seagate announced a new and their fastest mechanical hard drive, the Seagate Mach.2 Exos 2X14. The HDD holds a nice 14TB of storage and promises to hit sequential speeds of 524MB/s, putting it right u... Seagate announces its fastest HDD with close to SATA III SSD performance
So, it's basically like a two HDD Raid 0 internally, but communicates with the outside world as a single disk.
Let's see, CMR or SMR? I would like to hear Scott's Moulton opinions about those, as he is a veteran in data recovery and sometimes new is not better. But, out with the old, in with the new.
Assumption is where the problems start. Confidence and assumption are opening the door for deception. But I am to on hard on them Seagate, never have they mislead users and always stated clearly what is what, CMR and SMR drives.
Since Western Digital is using SMR in its 18TB dual actuator drive coming out soon, Seagate is most likely going to also.
Sounds pretty good--best speeds I see on my SATA 3, 7200 rpm drives, from Seagate & WD, is 160mb/s to 180mb/s. These are not benchmark speeds--these are daily operational speeds I see in copying files in Win10, etc.
Yes but there is no volume like that in SSD... Also you can do the same with a real Raid board (no... most motherboard are crap in raid lol) with many fast HDD and a SSD (and you can fit your level of security... wich is important with this kind of size)
This is awesome for server setup IMHO. Transferring large files is such a pita when barely hitting 120mbs on most of my 6TBs I have in my threadripper server.
I am interested in where this goes. if it goes for same price and as HDD it might be good for Sequential read operations. HDD will never be on par of ssd sadly. IF if that actual happens (fat chance) I for see SSD prices crashing which i think need to happen anyway cause there still to expensive imo
