Granted it's hearsay, but just when you think they can't push it any further, they just might. While unconfirmed whatsoever, word out on the street is that AMD is pushing the number of EPYC cores ev...

I want to see task manager with such core count hahaha, would be truly EPYC

    Thanks, Jura

Cant wait for the desktop zen4. It would be worth waiting and saving instead of overpaying for zen3 at end of its life.

At what core count is the memory bandwidth exceeded? I would think the cores are waiting around for memory access well before 96.

Can't wait to test Crysis (2007) on it.

If AMD wait until 2023 for Zen4, they're going to get overtaken by Intel sometime in 2022.
I thought Zen4 was on track for sometime early next year..

I wouldn't be surprised if RAM would be a bottleneck, on DDR4. But with DDR5 I'm sure it's fine. Who knows though, maybe they'll add more memory channels.
Don't forget too the gargantuan cache that would be involved too.

I assume 8 memory channels of DDR5 will have enough bandwidth for most workloads.

What intel is going to put in the server market that can take the current zen 3 in 2021 or 2022?

If 96 is going to be the ceiling ofzen4 then there is a good chance Zen5 will target 128 exciting times !

Intel hasn't got any reply to EPYC all this time, yet AMD has still struggled to get even 10% of the server market. That showed how the market works: customers are loath to switch ecosystems, regardless of apparent technical benefits offered by the other choice. Maybe AMD would have needed a full decade of Intel sitting on its hands to get to 30%. Nvidia finally moved on to EPYC, and I would say Nvidia represents the quickest reactions. Even that might not matter much in the long run, however, because I imagine Nvidia is working hard to support their GPUs with their own ARM based CPUs in the future.

I meant for desktop. I agree, I doubt Intel is going to retake server crown in next 2 years.

    just no.
remember all sales will be made under the Paris Accords.
Intel is nowhere near the efficiency of Epyc. this affects the bottom line profitability (lower cost of operation) and makes climate goals more attainable for the power hungry server farms just by updating to what the market is already demanding.
Intel's next gen Xeon won't be able to match Epyc Gen1, let alone Gen3.
