Really looking forward to games using this. I take it other applications say video editors or Photoshop could make use of it?

Am I the only one who's sick of announcements for announcements?

Sometimes it feels just like pointless PR, other times it can be a reminder that things still happen.

I can"t wait for a new storage API! It is the biggest system bottleneck for years!!
It is in dire need ever since SSD came into the picture, not to mention NVMe protocol...

I'm sick of people like us, who barely have a real concept of how anything works, criticizing people and teams who work like dogs for years.

More on the subject, they might announce it as part of the Windows 10 April update, that wouldn't surprise me at all. Along with HAGS and native VRR support, it's an amazing update. Without it we would never be able to catch up to the next generation of consoles.

lol - *shrugs* I ask what some might call simple questions I guess but I also work in Automation and deal day to day with "so-called" complex issues. But um @PrMinisterGR, to the point - many people here I bet work for companies like Microsoft or are in an engineering team where we would rather see information released when it is "solidified" or ready, than not. A lot can go wrong between development and ready for release, we often see companies have to go back on and or revise previously released statements. People literally are clamoring about CD Projekt Red everywhere right now.. sometimes it pays off not to say too much and just release information matching only what you actually have not what you plan to have.

There are no multiple announcments. Microsoft presented it as part of the Xbox, then said it would be part of Windows. Now they will say when that will happen and have more details.

Eh I guess I should have said I was generalizing a bit there too...but to be fair I didn't write that either "multiple announcements" so I'm a little confused ...

Some people get excited about the next scientific documentary, some get excited by the next episode of Hollyoaks or TOWIE... while others get excited flicking through the new Radio Times.
Wherever you fit in, is it really worth getting annoyed by ANY of it?

you're not wrong, me sighing at people who say "just release x nm already" as if semi-conductor wasn't one of if not the most complex industry in the world

I am not in this case. Because they are not doing announcement to let you know about incoming textual notice or release of white paper.
They are announcing live event. If MS expected people to be present on unannounced live event, they would be morons. But apparently they are not.

its sad how we've had SSDs for almost a decade and there's only one game sort of making use of it on pc

I mean, whats "pc" gaming anyway...

I was gonna say Gen4 only? My Gen3 4tb MP400 hit's 3500 and 3000 speeds which is still pretty fast. Ok it's not 7000 speed or even 5000 but for me it's still super fast.
