We review the RM650x power supply from Corsair. This is the 2021 update for the RM series and next to an aesthetic overhaul is offered in a silent RMx series that comes with 80plus Gold certification,...

Magnetic Levitating fans are loud? Louder than the FDB it replaced?

ML are indeed louder at high(er) RPM. At low RPM they offer good airflow and remain silent.

With a Seasonic Focus GX 650W you'll get roughly the same but 30-40 bucks cheaper...

is this airflow noise, or bearing noise?

also has this been revised for sata 3.3?

I had ml120s that I sold, around 1200-1300rpm they produced something that sounded more like a whirr or buzz than a woosh to me.
now I'm using sp140pro's and while they're not quiet either,it's a different type of noise.it sounds like pushing air.

imo we badly need a fan sound roundup, with HQ recordings.there is so much more to fan noise than just how many decibels they produce.I'd take my alpenfohn wingboost 3 noise at full speed over ml120s running 1100rpm every day.not even a contest.it's just an entirely different sound.

another thing about using ml fans in this psu - it's semi-passive.worst possible configuration.once it spins it's gonna start at mid-high rpm already.
I have a semi-passive superflower unit too,and I've come to the conclusion that this formula is a trap, you gotta use a real quality fan for such units.Otherwise just let it spin at all times without having to reach high rpm when they get hot.I think bequiet does that on their psus.

    On my loop I have 6 Corsair ML120 fans with another other fans(9*PH-F120MP, 3*Noiseblocker eLoop, 15*Arctic Cooling P12 PWM and 2*Thermalright TY-143 )

Noiseblocker without the question are nicest fans with PH-F120MP, Arctic Cooling P12 PWM are nice fans at 1000-1200RPM although I don't run them at such speeds usually they sit in 700-850RPM as max and for 140mm fans I highly recommend Thermalright TY-143 or TY-147A fans, nice sound signature

120mm fan always will be louder than 140mm fan at same speed

If you think that fan have loud fan then I would recommend or suggest try Superflower 8pack 2000w PSU,fan on thar PSU is so loud hahaha, during the rendering and power draw above 1100W that PSU literally wants just take off

Quietest PSU to the date which I have tried or used are EVGA or Corsair or BeQuiet ones, Silverstone too are pretty quiet but Seasonic are on par with my Superflower hahaha

Superflower using quite loud fans hahaha, thinking putting there Noctua 140mm fan or Thermalright TY-143 which is my favourite fan

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

    no,they won't
120mm should be quieter since they don't push as much air as 140mm
    it's just ml series isn't

I'll say it again, ML fans need to be configured at low RPM, and they're great at it in terms of acoustics. Much like described in the article and much like described in our fan reviews.

every fan is quiet at low rpm
like I said, and others said,ml fans produce a bearing noise when they're not under 1000rpm.

You've made your ML hate sufficiently clear in the five posts by now, let's halt it here.

is that possible in this power supply though, a switch between always on and hybrid isn't really configuring

Love my ML140s. Amazing air flow for their size. Never bothered by the noise, but never had to run them at full blast. An ML fan in a PSU is a plus point for me.

Just got one myself and it's good. Recommend.

I was impressed by the packaging too: all cables in plastic bags and a slipper telling Seasonic removed all non-woven materials from packaging as these are raw materials for face masks and protective clothing.

Small detail but appreciate it anyway.
