I appreciate your opinion, but I don't think I am overthinking. I am not in a hurry and I don't do upgrades often.
What do you think of the following motherboards for the Ryzen 5 3600? ASRock B550M Phantom Gaming 4 Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro-P I prefer not to buy a Gigabyte motherboard, but the above seems much better equipped (ALC1200, 2.5GbE LAN, Q-Flash Plus) than the ASRock motherboard for a slightly higher price.
I can live with a Micro-ATX board, but I would prefer to have two PCIe x16 and two PCIe x1 slots available. I suppose if I am willing to pay more there are B550 Aorus Elite V2 and B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 from Gigabyte, but are there not motherboards with similar specifications and prices from other manufacturers?
I had a 3600 in an Asus B450-F gaming mobo. It gave around 10 to 20% slower gaming fps than my 6700K, with a fast 1080ti. fyi
Are you saying that I should look for an Intel CPU instead? I am aware, but I noticed no difference in performance with such a configuration.
It was an FYI so you can get some measure how well it will perform. There is a caveat ... I didnt test it with games that can use more the 4core 8thread (6700K is a 4core 8thread, 3600 is 6core 12thread). There will be some games where the 3600 performs better because of this. The 6700K is pretty quick and still performs well even in Cyberpunk apparently if you reduce the number of people walking the streets. But if you want to max the settings, more cores are needed. There will be other games that run better with more cores. Perhaps someone else can advise which? Flight Sim 2020 for sure!
What do you think about a budget X570 motherboard like the Phantom Gaming 4 from ASRock? https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/X570 Phantom Gaming 4/ Does it make sense to buy such a motherboard if using one videocard? Anything to gain over a B550 motherboard?
MSI X570 Tomahawk is the best board for value and features - MSI boards also have the chipset fan in a sensible location so it doesn't get choked by a GPU (so stays quieter) If you want to compare features of boards, there is this handy spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...FnsZYZiW1pfiDZnKCjaXyzd1o/edit#gid=2112472504 Generally speaking, with X570, you'll retain access to all Sata ports, m.2 ports and PCIE lanes as well as have more USB ports etc B450/B550 you can end up having to drop sata ports if you occupy certain pcie ports or m.2 ports or other combinations etc
MSI X570 Tomahawk only has an HDMI 1.4 port. Other X570 motherboards have an HDMI 2.0 port and sometimes a DisplayPort 1.2 port. When using a videocard this might not matter, but I might need one of the newer ports in the future for supporting a maximum resolution of 3840x2160 at 60Hz.
I am talking about a future upgrade or in case the Ryzen 4000 Desktop APUs appear in reasonable prices before I decide what to buy.
