NVSlimmer - NVIDIA driver slimming utility

I'm in love with this program. Just some serious suggestions or requests:

1. Add tooltips for every checkbox label to describe the component purpose, this way the user can learn and be aware of what components he/she really wants to keep or skip.

2. Stop forcing as a default behavior the repackaging of the drivers folder. Just let the user decide if he/she really wants to repackage it, or instead only wants to copy the contents unzipped into the output folder.

3. Since you are building a custom SFX module with 7z, you could add an option to let the user disable all nvidia's telemetry by integrating this batch-script in the SFX to be ran:

EDIT: I found a bug:

After a setup.exe is loaded into the program by using the "Load..." button, if the end user press the "Load..." button again and cancels it, the program goes wrong by disabling all of its functionalities and giving only the option to exit/close the program. But there is a loaded setup.exe, and the program should be aware of it.

4. Release the source-code on GitHub, so people can say it is safe and transparent, and we can do forks and help you improve and add features and fix bugs like that, while you still receiving donations.

I know i late to party here but are you saying checking clean install when install drivers make the drivers use MSI mode? been doing that for years but as far as i know the gpu is not in msi mode it still using the defualt irq 16 it always does.

Just curious though as I never even both to switch in to MSI anyway

No, not saying that, clean install option in NV installer just removes most of old config's. The tool "NVcleanstall.exe" made by TechPowerUp has a option to add MSI mode. It would be the same as using this tool in this post NV Slimming utility and then using mbk1969 MSI mode tool to set and then reboot.

It just combines and saves a little time.

 

oh, never heard of that tool so basicly just nvslimmer and the msi tool mbk1969 made rolled in to one? I will take look at, not that i mess with MSI switching cause I never saw reason to, I some people have crackly popping in hdmi audio threw there tv if they dont have msi enabled but i dont have that issue on my end

probably by time i just install new drivers i wont remeber though and just use nvslimmer like always after ddu cleaning

 

Check it out it is very good, made by same person that makes GPU-Z.
It is mainly a driver slimmer but has a few options, one being MSI mode on only the vid card, so it limited to video devices.

PS: I set it to MSI just in the case it lowers latency, I don't have any issues with sound, there should be no down-side to MSI mode as long as the device supports it.

 

yah when i test msi mode for gpu i never saw any difference latency difference or performance of any kind atlest when did mess around with latencymon, messing with all that taught me anything it dont mess any of that stuff if i have no issue, some people claimed it helped with microstutter, in some game but few game i had that had such issue had reguardless of msi mode or irq mode. For year or so i did use MBK1969 tool to do this but after few drivers changes and seeing no difference i just stoped bothering.

Way i fiqure it if it was need or recommended nvidia would force into that mode when drivers are installed, last i heard AMD does this with there gpu drivers? and before messing with system timers cause latency issue that maybe cause by gpu/nvidia drivers try msi mode first.

I mean in theory MS update and build updates should have no down side either. but we all know that is not true these days so more then others

food thought for very long time I thought Nvidia drivers forced MSI mode cause system info in nvcp always show no IRQ used till i found out it long standing bug device managers show the gpu as using irq 16 now when the irq is shared i know problems happen like audio popping latency and what not I also dont use Nvidia audio drivers I just MS generic ones, cause I did have latecy and audio problems with the nvidia audio drivers using generic fixed that.

Hi all, as someone very new to the concept of driver slimming, I have no idea which of these I should install and which are unnecessary.

Anyone have a list of recommendations for which ones I need? Usually I just install the full driver direct from Nvidia minus GeForce Experience. Thanks!

 

If you just want desktop driver support and the control panel, then you can just use Core Display Driver, HD Audio, Install Core, and PhysX. If your graphics card has a USB-C port that you use, then you can also install the USB Type-C Port device driver.

Sorry to bother again, but to clarify, I only care the driver for playing games and I don’t use the USB C port or HD audio. My monitor doesn't actually have any speakers so I could probably get rid of HD audio too no? Thanks,

Do I only need to enable the core required options + phys-X then?

Or, are some of the components under Misc required too? (C++ runtime, update core, etc)

My goal is just the most up to date driver with all that’s needed for the optimal gaming experience without all the other junk (telemetry/shadow play/GeForce etc) and I just want to be sure I’m not missing anything in the install that would be a dependency for example. Thanks!

 

Be aware: Strong language powered by Google translator

I tried with latest drivers and and it looked like it would work, but strangely enough my boot time goes up to 68 sec from typical 8-12 sec. I installed again, this time the normal drivers from nvidia without NVSlimmer or any changes. After that my boot time goes back to normal.
Any ideas?
