Hexen HD with gzdoom CD-Audio Red Book not working

    I just tried the new Hexen HD with gzdoom and it is graphically amazing! It's as close as it gets to a modern remake!

    My only gripe is that it doesn't recognize my original Hexen CD Audio either in physical form or as an ISO with Daemon Tools virtual drive, as it seems to bypass it and only features various enhanced Midi Devices to choose from in the sound options albeit with improved music over the original 1995 midi sound track.

    So is there a way to play Hexen HD with the original CD-AUDIO music from the original CD or via an ISO mounted onto a virtual CD Drive in Daemon tools?!

    Or at least if CDDA isn't supported in GZDOOM and HexenHD, perhaps then there is a way to play the original CDDA tracks as converted mp3 at 320Kbit or FLAC files placed into some folders?!

    gzdoom doesn't implement CDDA because it requires a license.

    It's definitely a matter of opinion, I've thought the Hexen HD looked awful.
    A case of it being "over done".

    I still find the original timeless, in both visual style and fun.

    It is awesome! I love it... Run it with darkdoomz mod, set it up on lite or slightly brighter and it looks even more amazing!

    That's strange because I remember playing Hexen Death Kings of The Dark Citadel with JHEXEN & Doomsday hi-res patch back in 2004 with CDDA audio just fine. So I'm, surprised this newest HexenHD enhancement doesn't support CDDA!

    OK, if CDDA isn't supported in GZDOOM and HexenHD, perhaps then there is a way to play the original CDDA tracks as converted mp3 at 320Kbit or FLAC files placed into some folders?!

    What about adding DarkDoomz + Reshade + HDR + AO (turn off GZDOOM AO or set it to the lowest) + Global Reflections + RTGI? Oh hell yezzzzzzzz:

    I think you can create a .wad or .pk3 file of your own and just load it up with GZDoom.

    .pk3 files are just archives, you can open them up with WinRAR for example just fine.

    So rip your game audio, archive the files to a.zip (don't compress, just store) and rename the file extension to .pk3.
    Then just add that file to your load order.

    Check an existing audio .wad or .pk3 for supported file formats, I think GZDoom can play .mp3 but not sure.

    For example DoomMetalVol4.wad, should open in WinRAR just fine.

    Edit: forgot to mention a mod file likely also has a descriptor for what game it's used with and how but again use an existing file as an example to create your own.
    As in DoomMetal... knows what tracks to play in what levels instead of playing them one by one.

    Use bassmididrv and select it in gzdoom then apply your choice of soundfonts.
    the cd tracks aren't actually better, they are just on a different synth and are missing a good number of the songs.

    You can make a folder with the audio cd tracks as per this post from Graf, GZdoom author:

    Regarding my visual settings:

    I don't think we can attach settings here but you can download reshade from here: https://reshade.me

    Then run the EXE, select OPENGL and point the application to install the mod INTO your GZDOOM folder where GZDOOM.EXE is located.

    Install ALL the shaders when Reshade as you to download it.

    Install the BUMP MAPPING shader from this post INTO your GZDOOM RESHADE folder:

    For RTGI shader, you need to download it from Marty McFly's Patreon for now or "find it" on your own.

    For GZDOOM, I turn OFF all the Linear Filtering under TEXTURES and all SCALING OPTIONS to keep the pixel look. I let Reshade do its own processing which to me looks way better.

    Lastly, run this HD mod with DarkDoomZ and set it to DarkDoomLite mode or lighter. Everything else is way too dark for me but it looks incredible with the PBR, lighting and reflections.

    Also, you should checkout the author Andrew's Doom and Heretic HD mods as well. Its on the Zdoom forums. Just a do search and use my same settings with DarkDoomZ.
