waiting for my 3080 since sept 17th here, the line is still long, and the way it looks I might get it as lat as may or maybe june (bought in one of the biggest polish retailers)

the thing is,I still ordered it for msrp - 3280 pln, that is the official price of 699usd after conversion.
I bought a 1070 strix in the meantime,2nd hand, good condition, paid only 700pln but they go for 1300-1400 for worse versions now.
    found a 6800xt for 5200pln,instant delivery,safe shop.

    I know it's a crazy price,but I could sell the 1070 and make 700 back,then sell the 3080 when it arrives.
you think it's too risky to wager on that 3080 selling at +1000eur later in q2 ? they're selling for 1500eur now

My advise is wait for 3080 -> MSRP or get out ;)
    Do not overpay....

or you could just buy a 3090 available in a lot of places now and sell your 1070 to cover the difference, all cards have increased due to taxation so your probably going to be charged extra for the one on order anyway by the time it arrives

    OP, this ^^^^

If you already payed for 3080 @ MSRP, atm waiting in the line, no additional price increase when your 3080 arrives...

It's not that you don't have anything to play with, 1070 with a bit of OC will do just fine until June/July. With 3080 + 1070 in your hands in mid 2021 considering situation with shotages + mining (which will probably prolong in Q2 2021) you can't go wrong.

Yup, im on the same boat.
Don't wanna to be -in line for GPU- (not knowing when it will arrive ;))
Im just playing a lot of games with my Trusty Vega LC -> It still kicks ass + Fine Wine
Im not in a hurry, mayby i'll wait for next gen = Better RT and DLSS 3.0 :p at same MSRP 699$ but +30% performance... Not in a hurry.

I'd wait for the 3080 to arrive, otherwise i'd just skip this gen unless you find some cheap secondhand cards but only from someone trustworthy.(though that won't happen anytime soon). Don't get that 6800 xt.

no I did not pay,I would never pay 700 in advance.cash on delivery or gtfo.
    thanks for sound advice guys.

I still have a lot of really good dx11 titles to play.and I mean a lot. It's not like 1070 runs them badly,w. g-sync on a controller they're smooth and play nicely.
I just really would like to play the likes of rdr2 and prefer to see them in full glory, ultra w. 60 fps 1440p

what vega is doing in some of vulkan/dx12 titles is just fierce.
had it performed the same way in dx11 it could've stood against 1080ti not 1080 when it came out.

I had same situation at the beginning with 6800XT.
I was few minutes too late on launch day and was put on waiting list for reference Sapphire 6800XT at MSRP.
I first thought to wait but then saw that my Radeon VII could be sold for good price.
I sold that for 600€ on eBay and bought at that time 6800XT for 999€.
Seeing today that 6800XT custom cards are available very often for ~1100€ and the reference Sapphire 6800XT card never returned to store, I think my choice was not that bad.
I cancelled the pre-order at that time. At Mindfactory in Germany they charged me ahead and the money that I paid for pre-order was stuck at Mindfactory until I cancelled it. o_O

I would not advise anybody to buy a new card if one can wait as prices are crazy except if you have a card to sell that can bring at the moment good amount of money to compensate a part of cost of new card. Hopefully the prices will settle in the second half of 2021.

thing is,i still can't decide if imma keep the 3080 when it arrives
i really like the 6800xt and im bored with nvidia- though it's kinda stupid cause I had an almost flawless experience with all my green cards last 6 years

but if i find this powercolor card in stock imma get it immediately

Heard Newegg was trying to implement some sort of new system to help fight bots haven’t seen much evidence of it

would much rather buy in my country
had a sapphire r9 290 fail twice, shipping to a retailer abroad takes additional time.

that card was gone that very same day in the evening, regret not buying.
it was 5100 here, now you cant find one under 5900.

    that is old reference msrp
and those reference cards were nothing but a paper launch, they're not making them anymore, only partner cards at ridiculous premiums

    https://wccftech.com/amd-dont-expec...0-graphics-cards-at-official-msrps-till-2021/

    that was from november
    facepalm

and what exactly is that supposed to mean

If the 3080 is guaranteed then wait for it.

I was super lucky to get my Sapphire 6800XT Nitro+ for £50 over MSRP, never thought I would get one. Super happy with it as it crushes my 1080Ti in every single way, probably by around 80-90% if not more. I shall be selling my 1080Ti (zotac amp) soon on ebay for a very good price (im not into ripping people off).

But like others have said, wait for the 3080 you will have access to better ray tracing, dlss, much better productivity support with CUDA, and all of the nvidia broadcast software. These were not selling points for me in the slightest as I don't like upscaling, ray tracing still isn't ready, I don't edit or 3d render, and I don't stream or record. And like you I was tired of Nvidia.

But at least you have a card in your basket and have actually got it on order. Most people don't even get that far.
