    Hello lads.
    I was wondering if you had a current sticky or the likes to stop Windows 10 and Nvidia from updating drivers.
    I want to use 446.14 only.
    But I find after a couple of days windows has updated and NVidia despite disabling update tag will offer newer drivers.
    I have done some searches and the advice is carp.

    Did you try via Group Policy editor?

    run: gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions
    Prevent installation of devices that match any of these devices IDs
    enabled > show > add the IDs

    (get your hardware IDs from device manager > Display Adapters > *yourvideocard* > Properties > Details tab > Hardware IDs *right click and copy each*):

    Example for my 1080ti:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1B06&SUBSYS_37521458&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1B06&SUBSYS_37521458
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1B06&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1B06&CC_0300

    edit: by using this method you will not be able to update/install any other gpu drivers

    DDU (DisplayDriver Uninstaller) has this setting to disable windows driver auto-update system. Also, dont install geforce experience if it also auto-updates the drivers (not sure, cause didnt install GFE for years).

    Don't do this, you'll break the ability to install drivers period.

    set the global policy for "Do not include drivers with windows experience updates" to on under the Windows Update policies.

    Actually, the step that Appartus left out, is that you have to manually disable this whenever you want to install a new drive yourself, and then enable it again (including adding the device ids) immediately afterward (especially before any reboot). If you forget to do this first it will cause your installs to fail. If I remember correctly, you also need to have a pro or enterprise version of Win 10 to have access to gpedit.msc natively (there are workarounds out there).

    I learned this hard way, it will permenty stop windows from being able to install drivers for said device but it will also keep you from doing it, it great if you WANT the drivers to never be changed.

    for or updated though Not sure where you seeing this "Do not include drivers with windows experience updates" I do see "do not include drivers with windows updates" I just use that setting with DDU and let DDU disable drivers update and disconnect from internet till after installing drivers, and so far drivers have not be updated by windows since 1607

    I will take that it the same thing and ms renamed it again?

    I haven had driver update in long time by windows since enabling "do not include drivers with windows updates"

    All though I did have 2 intel drivers installed upon first boot up after upgrading to 20h2
    Intel - SoftwareComponent - 1.61.251.0
    Intel - SoftwareComponent - 1.38.2020.805

    I think one is for ME, but other then that no drivers are updated

    For the mo I have gone with the simple option DDU.
    What I did notice, anomaly, is that when windows updated my drivers Doom Eternal also updated.
    So then when I stepped back to my drivers and launched doom E it said it would not work with my drivers. But it did and worked perfect. Things to make you go Hmmmm.

    Thanks Astyanax

    That may explain one recent issue I had:
    https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/n...oad-and-discussion.435722/page-7#post-5870433
    But this was the first time I tried to update my drivers with my current win installation and the problem is resolved as I describe in my post.
    Actually it was the first time ever I had such a problem and you can see the frustration/surprise in my post.
    I used the aboved method in my previous installations without any problems.
    Don't try to debate here as it is obvious what you propose is the correct way.
    Just trying to understand:)

    ps: initial post in current thread edited

    Can happen if the cabinet is already downloaded before you've set the policy.

    Its only work for WHQL driver, when you instal non-WHQL driver then Windows Update instal older WHQL driver.

    I use this tweak:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching]
    “SearchOrderConfig”=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\current\device\Update]
    "ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Update]
    "ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Update\ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate]
    "value"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings]
    "ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
    "ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001

    Use Group Policy, easiet way or if you really don't want Windows Update, nuke the whole service, I only let it update Windows Defender, nothing else, MS constant changes to Windows and often breaking stuff is not something I am willing to tolerate again, you can also give Windows 10 LTSB a shot, much less intrusive and annoying; but its missing some stuff from the Pro version.

    I have used GPE ever since win7-win10 as mentioned
    "Astyanax said:

    In the 5+ yrs, I think the only drivers that ever got updated are the windows basic with each upgrade (System). audio, SATA, vid, USB never got changed.
