compared to server, intel is doing great in desktop.
they're getting pummelled in server/datacenter.even nvidia jumped to amd based systems for dgx and it must've been a hard pill to swallow.

Intel´s luck is that they are the only one with enough fab capacity to supply most of the demand, specially now...

right as we "speak", AMD has standing orders from Google, AWS, M$, and most major players in "the cloud" services, Pharma, and Bio-Tech. Then there are the standing orders for the supercomputers using the Epyc Milan series and the major cable and internet providers in the USA, not to mention elsewhere like anywhere under the Paris Accords.

and they're less expensive, not just more powerful.

if anyone was still wondering about capacity at TSMC, please stop. they have more capacity at 7,5, and soon 3n than anyone else. other fabs have to output dies sequentially as they are the ones who have limited capacity. TSMC has (and is building more) enough fabs to output in parallel. and unlike other heavy industry industry changing the production line (for the same node) is easy by comparison.
once you hear about a shortage of Apple products or Android phones then you can complain about capacity.

I wish someone told where the bottlenecks are so that I could blame the correct culprit! "Things just aren't working right now" or "demand is unexpextedly high" are too weird excuses. It's not like the PC business was born yesterday.

The Epyc 7002 series had pretty mind-blowing performance. AMD made some pretty significant gains going from Zen2 to Zen3, and some of these Epycs seem to be clocked higher than their predecessors. It's no surprise why so many big companies are going after these.

So intel get 8 cores for the same TDP that AMD get 64... Makes a whole lot of sense!

it's actually very simple - the AIB's downgraded their output forecasts to deal with Covid and haven't yet adapted as fast as the suppliers. same thing with gddr
once they realize that demand hasn't diminished they will modify output despite last years flat growth.
this could be a success story depending on the speed of the supply chain.
the odd thing is counterintuitive to economic models boredom creates a demand of it's own with increased focus on gaming or streaming.

We have to get another server soon and I have been advocating for an EPYC CPU and I think we may get one. I hope we can hold out long enough to get a third generation unit. They look pretty good - especially the big caches.

Yet AMD CPUs are still selling much better on German, US and UK Amazon despite the back to MSRP priced 3600 and the $350 5600X, etc.

I catch your drift. In the server room nobody cares about fps.
IT management cares about buying the best bang for the buck
I am talking about IT management with their unbiased opinion and without some company bribing and lobbying their platforms.

That’s true, thanks to me almost everyone in my company of 50+ are rocking amd think pads and our server is rocking an epic zen2 cpu. Although the earlier laptops with Ryzen 2 aren’t better than the intel counterpart, it’s nice not having to worry about bios updates as they are risky to do remotely.

At twice the cost/performance and twice (or more) the power/performance.

Releasing a GPU that only works on their own platforms.

    Digging their grave.
