Seems my board refuses to use the XMP timings, it keeps using C18 instead of C17.

Did the docp worked at 3200? Try setting timings manually if nothing works.

    True

my cl 16-16-16-36 wont allow 15-15-15-30 but will allow 16-15-15-30 or 16-14 ect

    Don't have 3200 as profile.

    3600 17-21-21-39 or 3000 15-17-17-XX.

Could probably try 3200 16-19-19-36 or something.

Probably not worth the trouble for so little FPS.

I can't complain so far, i'm getting 50-55C during gaming, while my old 4770K reached up to 70C with the same cooler.

    Shame

I just installed the 3202 bios and the random restarts are back

    event viewer says kernel power

I had this before on another bios, 3201 is fine and dandy

    @TheDeeGee try 16-16-16-36 or 30
    leave voltage at 1.35

Worth a try its a nice balance between 3000-3600. Im also using 3200 cl16 but my 2700x cant go higher due imc on zen+ not being so good. Anyway im glad you are happy just make sure you config memory correct with nice performance and stability. :)

Yeah, cuz i doubt it's stable. I ran AIDA64 and at some point it blue screened.

On 3600 17-21-21 that is, which is the actual speed the kit is sold at.

The kit i have is HyperX Fury Black HX436C17FB3K4/32.

    I think i'll give 3200 16-18-18 a try, from their HX432C16FB3K4/32 kit.

Up the soc voltage to 1.150 and ram to 1.4v if needed it will help. I dont think you'll notice any difference in performance between the two kits.

Do not remember the exact ram speed but after a certain point AMD does not like odd CAS timings. They have to be set manually with geardown off I believe.

The one thing i'm not happy about is the very aggressive ramping up and down of my CPU cooler (NH-D15.

I already adjusted the step up and step down times, but this doesn't seem to work on my ROG Strix B550-E Gaming.

Yeah the Smart Fan 5 thing on the Gigabyte board isn't perfect either, PCH fan in particular is also rough because it lacks finer customization entirely although in a sufficiently cooled environment the silent setting means it's at zero almost constantly as the chipset temperature is a bit higher for it to start up minimizing a bit of noise from that. :)

S-Fan 5 lacks a good minimum speed it's 0 and then up to the next stepping and you do want a good ramp or curve here because the CPU is fairly sensitive to heat before it throttles so there's going to be a bit of a jump from idle to active and then the rest can be dialed in to somewhat better minimize this.

Few different options but overall not the easiest to customize if you want a more fine adjustment for how it scales up and it takes some testing.
Also if you let it ramp up that little PCH / Chipset fan it gets really loud.

Mentioning that just in case, as a example in fact before I set it up I thought the CPU fan was being noisier than expected from how that had been configured but no it was the chipset fan ramping up.

Seems the Step Up/Down function has been broken of years.

Also all USB 2.0 ports on the back seems to cut out randomly, which has been bugged for 5 months now.

Maybe i'll just send the board back as broken and go with MSI.

Should have done some more research.

MMMMM.... my 2700X and samsung B Flare X kit . 3200 CL14 @ default but I have it running now @ 3466 CL15 and knocked my memory latency to 60ns it was 65 with the 3200 set. and of course speed went up too.... But no problem with the 15 setting 15-15-15-35-54. I'm also keeping my voltage low on purpose so I don't have to worry about my ram getting to hot. Ram set @ 1.36 right now.

    What settings are you using?

I was having the same issue and after messing around for quite a while and now using it properly for a few hours today I haven't noticed it audibly speeding up and down like crazy with these settings, guessing your board will have similar features to mine so hopefully you will be able to try this, my board is the TUF Gaming B550 Plus Wi-Fi and the fan being controlled by cpu is a Corsair Air Series SP120 which is a pwm fan like the one on your noctua so hopefully you will be able to select similar settings :x

    Step Up - 25 Seconds
    Step Down - 25 Seconds

    Cpu Upper Temperature - 70
Cpu Max Duty Cycle - 90

    Cpu Middle Temperature - 50
Cpu Middle Duty Cycle - 50

    Cpu Lower Temperature - 40
Cpu Min Duty Cycle - 40

Give that a try, see if that does anything *fingers crossed*

For max duty I could be using 100 but just for now I feel 90 is enough for when it's playing a video game, oh and this is on a watercooler.

negative offset means undervolting right? Is 0.0500v a safe voltage to try?

I was curious about this but was unsure what is safe.

Yeah mate i think most boards default with too high voltage, mine can hit 1.5v albeit for about a millisecond

    Use RyZen calculator:

    Try 3600 at 16/17/17/16 32/44 6/8 @ 1.42v
    ProcODT 53
    CAD_Bus (Top to bottom) -> 24/20/24/24

Rest at Auto -> Then dial things up more.

I just tried it, although in my bios it has an extra 0... so I set - for the offset and selected 0.05000v which makes my max voltage 1.376v, the default voltage the bios was reporting was 1.408v

Now to test it to see if it's stable :x

Seems 3600 MHz is Zen3 idle on desktop.

I hope that changes in the future, my old 4770K went all the way down to 800 MHz.

yeah it does take some getting used to after using haswell platform

however my chip goes down to 1.7 idle with 0.8v
