Think the delay is more related to the poor state the graphics are in. There was Plastic Face being shown off along with the trees straight out of Halo 2 (no improvements, just copied and pasted).
I wonder if the game was destined for delay anyway, or if the community feedback gave Microsoft something to think about. With the delay coming so shortly after the unveiling, I'm guessing the game was still on for a 2020 release just two weeks ago. Good for them to push it back, and good for us as well. Ballsy to delay their Xbox One Series X flagship title like that!
I'm excited for it as well. I actually thought the gameplay video they released looked really good, and like a lot of fun.
That's a BIG delay. I've got to say, that gives me a lot more confidence in the team and Microsoft, that they've found themselves able to make this decision. It also says the game right now has to be a complete mess, that its single player campaign is basically finished from start to end credits, but they need a whole year to bring it up to standards. Better to wait a long, long time for a good game, than to wait a little bit and get a muddled Halo game.
This is just a guess, based on secret audio, but Spoiler After chief picks up the cortana clone known as "The Weapon", they come across fragments of chiefs cortana elsewhere on terminals, most likely the fragments that make up the humanity that big bad cortana seems to have lost in her mission to wipe out free will
