    Hullo people,

After years of a misconfigured system which gave her all sort of grief ( hard crashes, BSOD's .... ) I need to get het a new system. We're coming from a i5 6600 ( non-k) on a Asus H170 itx motherboard with 2*8Gb 1833 DDR3 memory. Asus dual 480 4Gb

Yes. DDR3. That is part of the problem.
That 480 is another (I think ). Many Gfx driver crashes.

So, I'm on the lookout for a decent, yet above all stable system, Mind take a look?

    - Asus B550-I Strix ( ITX )
    - AMD 5600x ( compatibility ensured by Asus )
    - Corsair 2*8Gb 3200 CL16 ( compatibility ensured by Asus )
    - Samsung 970 Evo 1Tb ( compatibility ensured by Asus )

Later on a R6600 or something. Midrange AMD card. Is this a good move stability wise?
She has a freesync monitor so AMD is preferred. I heard the 5000 series wasn't all thàt stable.
To save a little money I'll keep the RX480 untill then.

Old Corsair ITX psu 400W will stay in there, I have no reason to believe that's a culprit.

I'll start with putting the PSU on the doubt list.
Any PSU will degrade over time. And most hard crashes and BSODs are PSU related.
Your build list is looking good, jus add a reliable 500-600W PSU from a reputable manufacturer and you're set.

Holy f*ck, how have I missed that?...

Now I am obliged to check everything I ever built, what a rookie mistake!

Well, this is why I post here, so thank you.

We are glad to help you fellow guru.
Keep asking, keep us updated, we are more than happy to hear that your new build power on with a satisfying inaudible whirr and a single beep.

As above, keep us updated on your new build and we'll try to help ensure that it all goes smoothly.

Ordered a Corsair SFX 600W Platinum PSU to replace the 400W one.
We'll see how we fare then.
Order for the rest of the shown parts is delayed wince no more 5600X in stock.

also, will be moaning to wifey to remove the barely used slot loaded DVD RW drive. It was stupid expensive, but at the time she really wanted one built in instead of a simple USB DVD drive to connect when you actually needed it.
That M1 is crammed as I need a whole PSU modular cable for just one sata connector. Things like these drive me mad :). I already removed any sata drives and replaced with M.2 for that reason.

600W sounds good, it seems delays are the norm these days.

M.2 does help keep things tidy, btw does the DVD drive still work? The drive trays always seem to fail.

Seems like it still works, yes. even with the slot pointed upwards in the case ( nCase M1 ), so all the lovely dust and cat hairs fall straight in :).

I hope to simply reduce the numbers or BSOD's. They vary enormously in error code and most searches/solutions aren't all that effective.

    Update:
Alas, the 600W didn't fix the BSOD's. Now, I was planning this build anyway so no financial harm done.
Turns out the original PSU was a 450 one, so just acceptable. This will do HTPC duty.

At the end I'd like to really to know why wifey gets such a range of BSOD error codes, but for now just having a working system will do.

[Question for the local folks: Can I expect a sales period going on soon in Belgium/The Netherlands? I didn't see much hardware on sale for the festive period yet.]

I had a lot BSODs for a whole week until i straightened out all the sata cables goin to the Mainboard. i must ve bent a plug to the side while plugging in additional SSDs. so that was hard to find. after that i had no more crashes.

That must've been hell to diagnose. Luckily I'm getting rid of Sata ( as well as Molex )

Molex should have died a long time ago!

:p you might not realise this, but every power connector in the system is Molex, (though the 3 and 4pin fan headers might not be)

Most people refer to these as Molex and you know it.

yuk yuk yuk! the number of times I had pins popping out of those ! I got to the stage I would routinely plug them in then fill the backside with silicone sealer to hold them straight and in place next time, cant tell you how disappointed I was when my Water pump and the Aquaero came with those on!
