I figured out the best way was to let Windows install it's preference driver, then I installed the latest offical driver myself. Seems to work that way.

 

First I disable the network adapter, so no internet.
Then I remove the driver from Program and Features but don't reboot.
Run DDU, boot into Safe Mode and remove any driver leftovers.
After reboot, back in normal Windows I install the driver. Reboot again if requested by the installer.
Finally after all that, enable the network adapter.
Sometimes I also run CCleaner and clean the registry and unnecessary files.

I know that there are a lot of reboots involved here and it does take me about 7 or 8 minutes to finish, but I find the AMD drivers to be somewhat unstable and buggy, especially on my RX 5700 XT, so doing it this way is what I call a "clean install".

 

Sounds like you need a new system drive.. rebooting on an SSD takes around 15 seconds

 

My laptop took 8 seconds to load from the boot screen to Windows after a reboot.

Yeah. SSD's are quicker at booting, normally a couple of seconds or so.

 

I have found a bug. Rx580. After installing any driver after 20.9.1, Some games alt+tab randomly when i start them for first time after cold boot and as a result some old games that i have in origin dont responding. For example fifa 2009 , fifa manager 09 , mass effect 1. With 20.9.1 this alt+tabing dont exist.

 

Do you have anything else running in the background? Anti-virus for example?

 

No only windows defender. Anyone else have noticed anything similar?

 

I think I had similar problem with my 290X recently. But I'm not sure if it's because of the recent drivers or the recent versions of ReShade that I use.

That just worries me but i dont play alot of older games. Does it happen with any newer ones?

 

In bfv when I start it in full screen after 3 sec it goes to desktop and the game runs it in window mode and when I click to it, the game goes full screen again. The same with heroes of the storm.

 

Anyone with a 5700xt notice that your vram clock rate is lower then what you set it to?
For default it's 1750 but in game its 1746 or something like that?

 

I'm not sure if it is related but i just read there is a problem with alt+tab on windows 10 20h2 build and microsoft prepared but not released yet a fix for it.

Personally i haven't run into any issues with alt+tab on my 580 but i'm on windows 10 2004 build still.

 

Basically is automatic alt tab like the full screen game lost focus and tries to run in window mode.
