Why name drivers 456 if they really are 455 ?

Oh I don't have the branch name I went with this.

Then you also have the driver version like 456.38 or the current 456.55 and the internal driver branch these are on.
That's the important one which had me wondering if this was either the current latest code meaning a similar branch or newer than what 456.55 had or if it's a older one that's stable and has these Vulkan extensions but maybe not the latest fixes.

There's one earlier 456.x review driver too I believe but the likely would be somewhere between the two public release drivers for the 456.xx series and Ampere GPU support.

EDIT: Huh I can't seem to find the 456.55 driver branch in that topic.

So if the above are vk456_14 they're a little bit older in terms of the branch version.
Which I think NVIDIA calls 455 but might encompass 455 to 459 before I guess the 460's next?

AMD GPU at the moment here, trying to keep up with NVIDIA and AMD and planning for the next GPU upgrade.

I tried to install 457.00 for Windows 7. Installer stops with "Non 7z archive" message after I've given the folder location where to install. Other packages have usually installed just fine. Also the 457.00 for W10 installer will extract and run fine, though it just won't install the driver because it's not compatible. I've tried downloading the W7 driver package again with different browsers but that didn't help.

 

Yeah, it happens with Windows 7 as well. It might be corrupt zip files, though will download 7-zip to see if it's still an issue.

Edit: Still get the same error msg. with 7-zip.

 

Passed it along.

 

Still only a broken package available for Windows 7. They're in no hurry with replacing it.

 

The download has been fixed for Windows 7.
