People talk like all of the sudden Ryzen 3000s are crap or obsolete, they are not, they are still great at multitasking (unmatched by the competition) and very good at gaming.

You should see it this way:

    Entry level 6/12 CPU 3600 200$
    Mid level 6/12 CPU 3600XT 250$
    Top level 6/12 CPU 5600X 300$

    Entry level 8/16 CPU 3700X 300$
    Mid level 8/16 CPU 3800XT 375$
    Top level 8/16 CPU 5800X 450$

    Entry level 12/24 CPU 3900X 400$
    Mid level 12/24 CPU 3900XT 475$
    Top level 12/24 CPU 5900X 550$

You can't complain you lack options.
In a few months, 3000s will surely be phased out and replaced by non X versions of 5000s at a similiar price with a small bump in performance.

Two responses i have to this , if a 5600 non x is not in the plans then yeah big increase ... But there is the rumoured 5600 for 220 ...10% increase it's ok ...i believe the 5600 will come after availability of the x skus normalise and feed the first month/s of people rush buying the new shinny thing. Also is not the rumor that makes me believe the non x variant is comming just so far the 1xxx 2xxx and 3xxx series had non x variants i do not think they would change it now.

Let's not forget 2000 series and even 1000 series, theoretically ALL of them working on the same B450 boards (depending on bios version)

2700X is still quite powerful for multi-threaded workloads, and no slouch for single threaded as well.
1600/1700 are slow by today's standards, but still work just fine for people that don't need top-end performance !

My mother is now using my "old" R7 1700 and she's amazed on how quickly it completes various things she does compared to her old computer which was Haswell dual core i3.
    I paid more on that i3 (2c/4t) than I did on this 1700 (8c/16t)...

    ---
Anyway, I'm not saying I agree with the price increase, but it is not that big to cause problems.

Anyone who could afford 3900X at launch for $500 can afford 5900X at launch for $550 .... same goes for every other model (Well, 3600-> 5600X is a bit too steep indeed, but it will come down in time, I'm sure of it)

Nope, Ryzen 1600x was released in 2017 for MSRP of $249. 3.5 years later 5600X will release for MSRP $299.
Following Ryzen pricing trend, 7600X will still be priced at $299 with a worst case price of $349.

    No?

2700k for one existed and two it seems like you are upset that AMD decided to not require you to get a high end chipset and more expensive system to have a high end processor in it...

If Intel had only allowed $200 processors, i5 and lower, etc. On their "mainstream" socket, would your opinion be the same? Probably right? Cause its not the fact AMD or Intel are expensive or not, it's about the fact you want to go back to the "good ol days" when you were told what was high end and what wasn't and blocked from the "ultra high end workstation" CPUs when in reality they were medium end and what was being told to you was workstation CPUs had every possibility to be on the mainstream socket.

    Don't drink the koolaid.

And the 3960/70 (same generation as the 2600k) launch price was $999

And i find it funny that you talk about the 7700k....

    2600k, 4 core 8 thread cpu released in 2011, for $317
    7700k, 4 core 8 thread cpu released in 2017, 6 years later, $350

And you're here talking about AMD...being over priced...

AMD will likely release 5600, so if people just wait a bit they can get a very fast CPU for even cheaper.

the price increase was inevitable given the level of investment (stock sold). unfortunately most algorithms for the stock market like short term (quarterly) performance. the quickest way to do that is to additionally defray the cost of production and increase the profit margin.

it sucks, but it helps to illustrate why the stock market is not the real world most experience.
this is the devil's due, we wanted competition, we got competition, and this is the price of competition. and Big Science ain't cheap.

what i do love about AMD is that while these are more expensive they are still a value proposition as well as a qualitative proposition. and for Radeon, they're going to Kick Ass at the price points for RX6000 series. being tied with the 3080 and a bit better for less money, less heat, and less power.

It makes perfect sense to me, isn't this what they are currently doing with laptop cpus (mixing old and current gen CPUs)?

A 3600, compared to a 5600x, is cheaper and a tad slower, exactly as a downclocked 5600x would be.
With a ryzen 3000 you aren't losing anything compared to an, hypothetical, similiarly performing 5000. The only thing missing is the sinergy with the new 6000 GPUs... which you wouldn't use in any case (don't tell me that you are on a budget for the CPU but willing to pay 600-800$ for the GPU).

If you are on a budget the 3600 is not going to magically and instantly be crap after the 5th of november. It's still the best bang for the buck, pair it with a 2060 and you have a good 1080P gaming system for at least a couple of years, then you could swap it for a 5800x (which will still be around) + a new GPU and have a nice and easy upgrade to keep you going for a few years more.

    OR

just wait a few months, AMD will release entry level ryzen 5000s and mid range radeon 6000s.

@tty8k well just then choose one that supports flashing without cpu installed , it's a rather common feature nowdays.

All major e-tailers in Poland offer that service for 5 euro.
Also GIGABYTE boards you can update bios without CPU common feature.

Im totally fine with that kind of entry :). Look 3 years ago what did same money get You(339$ msrp i7 7700k). You could argue that 5600X is a STEAL.

7700k was top of the range cpu while 5600X is not even close. Smart thing would be waiting for 5600 at 220$. Now thats an real entry.
