Nice to see you found out what was wrong with The witcher 3 :)

I skipped quickly over a few reviews and the perfs drop hard in 1440 and 4k on some titles seems to me like a 1080p card (no disrespect I play on an old asus 120Hz 1080p)
edit : compared to a 3080 I mean ! not saying perfs are awful just that there is a substantial difference between a 3070 and 3080 at 1440+ if I was aiming for 1440p, widescreen etc..I'll wait for availability of a higher card not like we don't have 3-6 months before we actually see one :p (save us AMD!)

I got an Msi RTX 3070 GAMING X TRIO on pre-order, be damned if im paying the scalpers £800+ for the fe version, scan expect therm in around the 30 November, the 6800xt looked good but the 3070 just piped it to the post for the games i play.

Here's me looking at my four years old GTX 1080 which has 8 GB of GDDR5X...

Four years later, nVidia is selling... 8 GB card, while they must have known that AMD will release stuff with 16 GB !??
Or maybe they were completely blind and didn't know, while it was rumored for months already that they'll have 12 to 16 GB !

While 3080 is ... well, let's say "barely adequate", this 3070 is completely DOA.
Nobody in their right mind* would buy it when the competition's card has double the memory and is 15-20% faster for just slightly higher MRSP.

In actual market prices, there's a good chance 6800 will be cheaper !

    * (but of course, there will be fanbois...)

Just checked the store i bought my 3090 from:
There's only one 3070 at 550euros(zotac gaming), all the others (31 other models) are 650-820euros, 704.365 euros being the average price.

"2080-ti at half the price" - Right

Hilbert has updated the 3090 and 3080 numbers for Witcher 3 just if anyone was wondering, the fixed numbers are reflected on the pages for the custom AIB card reviews as well.

@PrMinisterGR @Undying why? @ GB. it's not like the 1080ti or 2080ti perform better. in two years time there will be more powerful cards. I'll never understand this VRAM obession

2080ti does perform better than 3070 where you need more than 8gb vram like that example in doom eternal. If you reduce the texture quality 3070 pulls ahead.

The VRAM issue is a concern for people who play at 4K but admittedly there are only a few games where, as of right now, it is a problem with 8GB cards. I think the real concern here is VRAM requirements are only going to get higher going forward, and if you play at UHD and are considering buying a new card as an investment for the next 3+ years 8GB will become a problem.

Yeah, 3070 isn't very good value in the UK either, they're about £529-£679, so I'm pleased I got my preorder in for a TUF 3080 for £700 already!

cause buying a 2080ti used was one of my options, but after analyzing a lot of 3070 reviews,I'd prefer the 3070 even tho it's 8G.only thing I found on it is pcgh running out of vram if enabled RT and manually setting image streaming option beyond ultra.I wouldn't trade that for a 50W reduction in power draw and better noise&thermals.
well,to each his own.at $500 and 2080Ti performance,8G is a compomise I'm willing to take. This card is god damn sleek too,I may sell my 3080 once 3070FE is in stock.

An AMD partnered game optimized to allow AMD to milk their extra vram advantage for marketing purposes. Like what Nvidia did with the extra tessellation to cripple AMD performance. Both approaches are disingenuous. Pretty sure Godfall could easily been designed for 10gb vram or less with no impact on visuals or performance, but AMD just wanted to fill their extra vram to gain an advantage over Nvidia.

Some of the best looking games ever (ie, Metro Exodus, AC Odyssey, etc) easily do with less than 8gb @ 4k. This is just one side trying to screw the other with unnecessarily leveraging their HWs "moar is better" components.

No, it isn't. What isn't common sense is getting a top end GPU in 2021 that can't even match console settings due to VRAM restrictions.

Also the 3090 runs games very nicely at 4k, and some of us have even 4k120 displays. Imagine that.

Why would you make excuses for Nvidia?
