I only replied for the part that there is something not right. I'm certain that my inside contacts information are correct :)

Nobody is forced to buy the card the day after the reviews. So I trust nvidia that they were telling the truth.
On the other hand, I can wait some more, but if the review is great, then I might just order it asap.

Hardly surprising that todays big titles will use more than yesterdays - that is the way it goes. And yes RIP 3080 at 4k ultra settings.

Dont get how anyone can be fine with nvidia cheaping out on vram like this - the 700 usd 1080 ti had 11 gb vram nearly 4 years ago... now we are supposed to be happy with 10gb for the same amount of money? -_-

After September 1st, whenever I see someone with a 2080 Ti downplaying the RTX 3080, all I can see is someone with buyer's remorse...
P.S. There's a free copy of Watch Dogs: Legion bundled with RTX 3080. I will let you know if I'm running outta VRAM at 4K once I get mine...;)

I'm not afraid to try it on RTX 3080 at 4K full details, nearly every new NVIDIA generation chip decreased VRAM usage (especially against AMD cards, so I hope in this case VRAM usage will be even lower at Turing vs Ampere :)
Otherwise we could see some nice fps drops :-D
Too bad not many reviews mention difference between AMD vs NVIDIA VRAM usage at max details.

I'm getting the 3090, so no...

But how can you objectively say that when something was offered nearly 4 years ago, at the same price AND with more vram, that one should be happy about the amount of vram we get now... completely backwards logics.

It's like saying that 10 years ago you could get a 300 hp car for 25k, but now we should be satisfied with getting one with 200 hp for the same money... anyone with a half functioning brain could see that it's not a very good deal. And it's the same with vram situation on the 1080 ti vs 3080.

Gamegpu tests it, and the usage is the same across archirectures, with the exception of older cards having insufficient amounts of vram. And the difference in vram usage between amd and nvidia is pretty minor.

I have seen 400MB - 1GB VRAM difference between RX5700(XT) and RTX 2070/2080 card on some more popular games :) In very rare cases VRAM usage was same for both cards.
Anyway let's hope that RTX 3080 will be a card to remember (in a positive way)

3090? Okay, I see. Thought you were just salty...;)

Well, you're comparing old GDDR5X (1080 Ti) to latest GDDR6X (3080). It's mostly the 3070 that is lacking in VRAM, because it's got 8GB of GDDR6 - the very same VRAM found across the whole 2000 series lineup. Therefore NVIDIA was kind of stretching it with being faster than a 2080 Ti (I guess it is, 'til you run out of VRAM xD).

P.S. It's apple to oranges, but a brand new 200 hp car can beat an old 300 hp car. Assuming the latter is a heavy brick:p.

Haven't gone through the whole threat, but I fully agree - 10gb VRAM is too little. The bare minimum should have been 12gb, ideally 16-20gb.

The card is really good performance-wise, but it will become obsolete 1-2 years from now on when we have games with INSANE VRAM consumption (bravo to Lazy Devs that don't want to optimize stuff).

Personall - will go for 3080 only if there will be versions with more ram. Ideally non-Super/ Ti editions.

Personally I think the speed of the vram and better compression mitigates the issue. Then you got direct storage on top for future games which will change the way data is read.

I also reckon they were budget constraint due to how new the memory is and being ECC probably quite pricey.

Maybe less VRAM will finally force developers to use compression tools so we don't have ridiculous 150+ GB game sizes anymore.

Take a look at Warframe, they're going to use it and you see zero difference in quality.

thats not how it works :(

the textures are still either decompressed by the engine or decompressed upon being loaded to vram.

So.. a new 11GB 3080 in works too?

Basically just confirming some earlier info now that there's full product name listings for them but yeah it has enough VRAM now I guess ha ha.
(Well 10 GB's probably plenty good for some time yet too.)

EDIT: And the S models for a few of these too along with the higher memory amount.

EDIT: Ah that's the NVIDIA info and rumor topic then the "Showing signs" one I see this has been listed there already. :)
