Is this a disguised advertisement for casino games? It just comes across as such, with a touch of being condescending.

5,5 hours to go until Ubisoft Forward guys. Let's hope they show Valhalla gameplay without bugs, stuttering or animation problems. ;)

Game looked good, not sure about the combat system though. It appeared not very tactical to me, just button mashing and dodging and occasional skill attacks when they're unlocked.

What impressed me was the landscape. A lot more details to the countryside and the houses and backyards. Something they added in from Division2 are lootable places that are locked and you need to figure out a way to get in via puzzles. Love it!

Also you need to eat now because your energy doesnt regenerate automaticly, so hunting makes sense. Finally.

Only thing that bothered me was the insult battle straight out of Monkey Island. Oh cmon. xD

The animations look much better than the alpha quality stuff we saw earlier, but a lot of improvement is still required. Fem Eivor looks and moves in a very masculine manner, like they used the exact same animations for both. I predict the bias towards male Eivor will be much greater than AC Odyssey this time around because of that.

I'm gonna turn into such an introvert gamer this holiday season with AC Valhalla & Cyberpunk releasing 2 days apart from each other.

  9. Have they made at least some changes to their engine or is this the exact same thing we saw in Origins/Odyssey? I guess we have reached that point when even AAA games can have the same old tech and still sell good... these are dark times we live in, very dark indeed.

From what it sounds like, sounds like the same old engine.

Looking at the footage, I'm quite sure this came from a console; likely PS4 or some such. The framerate appears to be unsteady (even at 30 FPS) and the entire image looks quite blurry compared to the PC versions of AC Origins and AC Odyssey (or even the X1X), like the source file is low resolution or something. Texture quality also leaves much to be desired.

This game is going to be cross gen, and will bridge the divide between the current gen consoles and the next gen similar to what AC IV Black Flag did years ago. And so current gen consoles are going to struggle mightily with it, especially the base models.

Which links to a bit about the side quests.
Hmm so not quite the Hermes statue of spontaneous minor endless activities but also not quite the traditional side quest even if it follows a formula of go Y kill or bring X so maybe just the usual rule about going some amount of time and having some event happen?

I believe Ubisoft has a random sidequest editor where you put in npc names and items and locations and it asks you how many quests you want. Although the quests got better since Origins. They have plot twists and different outcomes depending on player decisions or combat expertise.

I'm tempering my expectations. Looked like a lot of the tried, tested and worn Ubisoft gameplay tropes that have been used for years. Not just in the AC games either. However, I admire what they're doing with combat, in making is so bloody brutal! I honestly think by adding so much blood and dismemberment really adds to how brutal it was back then. Oh, and it's in England. :)

I've seen some 4K footage of the PC version running at a rather wonky frame rate, presumably using a 2080ti because it was some influencer sanctioned type of thing. I don't think Ubi will bother implementing dlss or even a low level api, dx11 forever. cpu usage up the a$$.

German mag said the pc version had issues with a steady framerate. They still have some fixing to do it seems

Seeing Odyssey performance on the highest end GPU effectively ruled out the 2080ti for me. I was having real problems at the time at 4K with that game on the 1080ti and was looking for some relief but there is no card right now that can really help. The wait for Ampere has been a long one. Hurry up, Nvidia. :(

AC Valhalla will feature Mortal Kombat styled x-ray kills, the assassination kill they showed in the gameplay trailer:
    (Happens at 5:26 mark)

Has been confirmed to be part of the gameplay, but is player triggered ( sounds optional )
