    Please, stop hyping short lived boost. It doesn't mean it offers the same stable clock on all cores when overclocked!
    Please, prove me wrong.

    ignoring the fact that quite a few mainboard vendors make this boost an all core target by overriding certain values?

    I didnt pay attention to what mobo vendors offer.

    Ok, sorry to question on question, but is it possible to run Zen2 on boost clock 24/7?

    Gaming wise, that single core burst may be enough to compete with intel.

    Ryzen already has the upper hand if you are in a productivity workload.

    Even if it will go there for just a few milliseconds and in ideal cooling conditions...

    ERMS = Enhanced Repeat Move String
    FSRM = Fast Short Repeat Move String

    Some ES samples are at 4.9Ghz now.

    It won't cut it. Don't forget AMD IPC on Zen 2 is 10% higher than 9 and 10 series, so 4.5Ghz is the equivalent of 4.9-5Ghz on Intel arch. And still plenty to be gained performance is restricted by the dual channel ram. (See how much better on gaming the 3960X/3970X are).

    Intel would need 6Ghz to beat AMD Zen 3 with it's 20-25% IPC uplift OVER Zen 2 at 4.8/4.9Ghz.

    I was so pissed that my x470 only has 6 sata ports. So new board too.
     
  12. Same here, x6 Sata ports... even grabbed the extended version of the board but doubt I'll max them out only using... three at present. Two in RAID, One is AHCI... yep that sounds right. More content I make I'll play it by ear

    Lets just hope this thing can actually hold a decent all core turbo clock they already have intel beat in ipc they just need the clock speeds to match without insane thermals. if i can ill be getting whatever 8 core version they release looks like some mobo vendors will be reluctant to release bios updates for x470.
     

  16. That was my gut instinct ... so far even with what I have now (including both m.2 nvme used) I still have more than enough space.

    Heck you can grab 10TB consumer Sata drives at good cost out there atm

    EDIT: I just realized I wonder if it wouldn’t matter like regarding the premium or extended version having an extra one or an express port or two. Might be a chipset limitation?

    Personally I like my OEM enhancement of the clocks combined with CPPC2. Works well.

    AMD keeps going forward with Zen 3 and 4, while Intel is standing on the same spot and is trying to keep up with AMD. Who could believe that some years ago? :)

    Intel still does have a latency advantage, this shows in games like Far Cry 5 and a few others where Intel has higher frame rates even at 1440p, before anyone says it's just 720p or 1080p.

    Hopefully the latency will go down quite a bit with Zen 3, I know it's pretty much a given that it will be reduced due to the way the chip layout will be, at least in the 8 core chips, we just don't know by how much yet.

    Shame they didn't get latency down earlier, but they are doing fairly well bar that.

    Intel needs +10% clock speed to beat Zen 2 due to the better IPC the later had.
    A typical Zen 2 operates at 4500 without tweaking (just CPPC on) so for Intel to achieve the same performance needs 4500*1.1 = 4900Mhz speed MINIMUM.

    Zen 3 with 20-25% IPC over Zen 2 (8c CCX etc). So even if the Zen 3 operates at same 4500, Intel 10/9 etc series would need 4900*1.2 to 4900*1.25 speed so 5880Mhz to 6125Mhz.
    If the Zen 3 operates at 10% higher speed than Zen 2 then even if IPC gains between Zen 2 and 3 is 20% the Intel CPUs up to series 10 uarch would need over 6000Mhz.

    So lets assume Zen 3 boosts at 4900Mhz. 4900*1.1*1.20 = 6428Mhz for the Intel 8/9/10 to keep up.
    Even the 10% perf uplift on the upcoming 11 series won't cut it as it would need to hit 6Ghz either way.

    ^ u are forgetting the fact that for gaming another big factor comes into play. Inter CCX latency.
