Red Dead Redemption 2: PC graphics benchmark review (re-tested)

Discussion in 'Frontpage news' started by Hilbert Hagedoorn, Jul 24, 2020.

  1. This is a great benchmark... like... *insert mushroom emoji* Going through the 1440P sections just scratching my chin at the 1660s... such an odd pair they turned out to be. Are the refreshes always just about unused silicon? (am I saying that right)

EDIT: Man 1080ti has aged incredibly well. My god. Vega64 so far so good too, good for AMD; for a while at the beginning, there was a lot of hate about VEGA.

Think this game and a 2060 should keep me busy till the next gen cards are here, i imagine it'll still look great at 1080.
i'm still impressed with far cry 3 at 1080, couple more weeks and i'll seal the deal. (Get most of my parts from amazon these days due to the no fuss returns) my first z490 was a dud for example).

Good results. Also, I do not even run the game at Max settings so I will get even better results on my Vega 56, Vega 64 and RX5700. :)

    49 fps @4k for a 2080Ti is still disappointing.

    Hopefully 3080 will manage 60 fps+.

At 4K if you drop the placebo effect from "ULtrA" down to just High and only set lighting to ultra I bet even a 2070 super and 5700xt would maintain 60+.

yea yea i get it you can mess about with the options and get the ideal fps you need but still nearly £1400 on a gfx card that only pushes 49fps @4k while maxed out on the settings.

I believe Gen2 of RTX will do much better.

The issue here is Ultra is just placebo. There is no appreciable difference running high vs. ultra. This goes for most games.

Actually those settings won't even maintain a 50 fps avg. It's more like Textures on Ultra and the rest mostly Medium, a few on High to avg ~52 fps @ 4k in my testing.

The particle and volumetric effects are the biggest framerate killers.

Advanced settings and everything on ultra here and there, known as full custom settings can force even a 2080ti down to 30fps. Game is unreal if maxed out for real. True next Gen.

It's the game I most want/need multi gpu support for. It's also my biggest incentive to buy a next gen GPU when they are out.

    Lads. Warning, Necro post.
Well, I finally got the game: Black Friday deal.
I have been holding off because of: Price and all the optimisation problems and up grades and continuous fixes the game has gone through.
Also the file size for the standard game is now 119GB :)
So its all win for me except when I max out the game @1080p
But on standard out of the box settings for my GTX1070 it runs not lees than 69fps. Hey, hey, a little leg room for some tweaks then.
Post processing on the game is the best I've seen and yep a great looking game.
Its an Xmas prezzy to myself and so I have to resit playing it until baby Jesus day.
