A product that has yet to be released already is making bling, a 24K Gold-plated version is to stun a number of people. It'll cost "at least a few thousand dollars, or more."...

So it's safe to say PS5 has gone gold now.

I don’t think Sony will have a heat issue this time around. They made a point to say they set a TDP target and won’t go past it. That means the cooling solution will have a 100% known max and cooling it should be easy. Unlike M$ with the fixed clock and a power draw that could spike and fluctuate.

Is it gold plated metal or plastic? If it is metal, then it will last, but will be quite heavy (controller too).
Metallic coatings on plastics are not forever, especially not something people touch, polish.

Then, Gold is soft, it gets scratches.

These are probably for the collectors out there. Will be in limited numbers, so expect to see these on ebay one day for an insane amount of cash.

    Not really:
    Gold 314 W/m K
    Copper 385 W/m K
    Silver 406 W/m K
    Diamond 1000 W/m K
    Aluminium 205 W/m K
    Galium 40.6 W/m K
    Nickel 94 W/m K

    I'd go for copper :D

At current gold prices, this could be a solid investment. Not sure if pre-ordering though ;)

And what would you coat it with to prevent oxidation? I am sure that greenish/grayish surface isolates rather well.
And that includes desire to touch such surface. Soon, gamepads would end up in quarantine.

Actually... gold tends to only go up in value, so even though you're probably spending more than what the gold is actually worth (since it has to be casted), you could still get a decent chunk of the money back.

But, it's still incredibly stupid. 10 years from now, PS5 is just going to be some obsolete commodity. Covering it in gold isn't going to make it special; it just makes it tacky and expensive.

Which I guess is exactly what the target demographic aims for.

It's amazing how covering something in gold can elevate the level of tastelessness above literally doing anything else to it. I mean literal rubbing monkey faeces on it would still look better.

Seems there are a lot of idiots with more money than sense in the world. Spoiled rich kids - probably never worked a day in their life. Inherited / exploited oil money.
