Will it be enough to finally beat intel in gaming?

IF they fix memmory controller latency , it will eat intel . Thats the biggest flaw of Zen2

I doubt that Zen CPUs would limit your GPU even at 720p in way, you would have to pay extra for intel's "K" chip on "Z" chipset MB.

Zen 3's more unified L3 cache should go a long way to rectify this, and also inter-core latency as well. The sheer size of the L3 cache also helps a lot in reducing overall memory latency.

Where for X eat Y we always mean 5%-10% difference in particular cases.

Yes , that was in my mind :D 5-10% lead over intel :D

The big question I got is: what is in the design of AMD chips that has intel so flummoxed? Surely it's just a design problem they cannot solve?

At what resolution? 1080p? Because that is just about the only resolution AMD is struggling at.

I'm sure it'll close the gap some more this go'round....

Sure hope so. My ThreadRipper (tRX40) screams in the latency department, but the x570 system does surely struggle in the same regards.

Chiplets. Intel is still struggling to grasp the concept of how they did it.?!? HAHAHAH

Not sure honestly. I mean I thought AMD was mad for trying it out on ThreadRipper originally. With all of their latency issues along with performance being abysmal....

Now look at them! Knocking walls down today!!

Intel's problem is not the design of the architectures. They already have architectures much faster than the current ones, they just cannot use them to the full, because they were designed for the new manufacturing processes.

As 10nm did poorly and 7nm was also delayed, Intel found itself in a situation where the only chance is to continue to squeeze 14nm. When Intel has 10nm working properly or even 7nm, we will see good products from Intel again.

what you people mean struggling on 1080 p ? https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_5_3600xt_review,24.html with a 2080ti on farcry 5 witch is literally the stronger performing tittle with intel the humble 3600 still spits out 120 fps with a 2080 ti on 1080p

with a 2070 /2070s the difference is dropping way down and on higher resolutions disapears on other tittles the diference is on single digit fps .... don't know but 120 fps i would not call it struggling really

And I wouldn't even use the word "struggle" at all. I mean, a few FPS less @1080p with a 2080ti?? The other 99.9% real cases is on par with Intel, really good job.

1440p is the new 1080p with the new gen gpu's ;)

Beat Intel in "cpu bound" gaming?
First they have to dig hard to beat this in gaming:

Hey AMD: if you're tired of people questioning Zen3, maybe you should have a less stupid naming convention for APUs (including mobile). The whole reason people are doubting Zen3 this time around is because the 4000 series APUs are based on Zen2.

I love seeing your 10900k in every thread. It isnt redundant at all.

No one else is posting any results, just claims with no proof :p Like 3900x beating 9900k in games :p

Good thing this is a forum, so we all can post pretty much what we want. Unless "The boss" isn't liking it :)

To get "likes" on this forum, just press: AMD is king :D

PS: I want Zen 3 to pop off and crush Intel in both rendering and gaming. Only this will push the "singlecore" performance forward. Now the latency/singlecore performance for zen 2 is 4-5 years old.

    Singlecore performance done right:

If the rumors about the 8-core CCX, unified cache, 15% IPC improvements are true then yes AMD should beat Intel at everything at least until Intel can make a CPU on 10nm+. The 8-core CCX should make all 8-core or less CPU's similar to Intel monolithic cores and as such have similar latencies which is the main issue with the very high FPS gaming. All speculation and rumors right now so have to wait and see but I hope the rumors are true as we need AMD fighting it out with Intel for years to come.
