I have a quick question, i plan tot upgrade to a new setup.
    My current setup:

msi Z77 ga45 non gaming motherboard
    Intel 3770k
    16 GB 1600mhz corsair vengeance
    Corsair 550 old psu

    The new one :
    Ryzen 3300x
    Msi 450 tomahawk max
16 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Ballistix
    Seasonic Focus GX-650.

I have a 5600xt in the system wich im going tot keep.

Is it a solid build ?Or should i wait for b550 ?

    Thanks in advance

    Z

Is the ram on the motherboard QVL list ?
Apart from that it looks solid. You will miss out on PCIe 4.0 with a b450 board.
But buy some seat belts for your chair as well.

Yes or if you have a PCIe 4 NVME.

But the most important things is the RAM being on the QVL list
I see different speed grades of the 16 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Ballistix on the QVL list so that should be ok.

    NO. Why?
+30% cores boost and -15% memory latency not worth it. wait for zen 3

Dying motherboard + crap performance in Cod warzone and Assassin's Creed oddesy says otherwise.

Motherboard is 7 years old and withstood water falling onto it...coca cola going onto it..

    Its time to move on

That's funny.... I've been building PC's for over 28 years, and NEVER consulted a QVL even once. However "It's the most important thing".

    ROFL.

ROFL all you want if it makes you happy. I guess you didn't get much experience in your 28 years building PC's .

It would be a nice upgrade for you, and would also give you a lot of future upgrade paths down the line such as the 3600x, 3700x, 3900x, or even the 3950x and also Zen 3 if they support it on that board.

He mentioned the QVL list as Ryzen CPU's are well known to have issues with memory. Majority of them have been sorted out with newer CPU's and Bios updates but with how bad Zen 1 launch was its always best to double check the QVL list or to google to see if anyone else has used the same combination of parts.

The memory is compatible but i might switch it up..
Im reading up on the best matches for this motherboard/cpu combo in the time i have.
Thanks for the help so far.
I hope i can start ordering stuff soon.

I'm also upgrading to 3300x from i5 7600k . Current CPU just causes some games to stutter , even in windows i can't proper multitask becasue 4 cores are locked all the time . Waiting for B550 mobo tho as i want to upgrade to Zen3 next year or so.

Yeah i was thinking the same.
Waiting for the b550 now and mabey even the ryzen 3000 refresh.
Mabey other cpu's will drop in price enough tot make them more appealoing than the 3300x:cool:

Wish AMD would have just released the b550 together with the 3300xo_O

Make sure you get a case with a closed top, or put the PC up high enough where it's not likely to have drinks placed on it. Computers don't come with flippers or fins for a reason.
Yes, it's time for an upgrade. I would recommend you have a look at B550 if you have extra money in the budget - but know it won't make a speed difference at all - it just gets you newer features such as better USB port selection and PCI-E 4.0, possibly higher max ram capacity too. A 650 watt seasonic power supply will leave you room to put a larger video card and cpu in there later, too (such as a 2070 Super and a 3900xt or 3950x CPU). Seasonic is a great name in power supply and generally one of the best you can get for reasonable prices.
B550 is now available, go have a look and see if any are still in stock, though with the prices + covid economy, they might not sell out as fast as normally.
This thread is about 20 days old but felt compelled to post due to B550 release.

Yeah in your case i would say 3300x is alright, but only if it's really just a stopgap. For anyone planning on a system for 2-3-4 years I'd say 3300x is a big no no. (I mean... upgrading a 7year old quad core system to another quad core.. long term? eh)
My old x79 board was dying too which is why i jumped on the 3900x. Can't say I regret it, however my nvme/mobo have been a pain (had to RMA both, oh the joys of new hardware)

I would probably switch ram to a Patriot steel 3200/3600 kit on that 1st post build tho. They seem to be the best value option out there.
