I had to completely wipe my system and was wondering what the optimal/best driver for my gtx 1080 would be?

It's always the most recent driver available for your GPU.

    445.xx overall has
    HDR issues
    premier doesn't detect cuda
    BeamNG broken
    F1 2019 crash
    NV_Cache bug
    sharpening not working the same

    Pascal specifically has in 445.xx
    Flickering in doom eternal

    Benchmarks are irrelevant.
Recommandations are usually subjective, but the nv_cache issue is cause to go back to 442.

Another vote for the 442.59 drivers, fast and stable with no cache problems like the 445.xx drivers

Untile nVidia releases the next driver which is reported to have the cache fix included.

Ask 10 people, they will give you 10 different answers. 3 of them will explain why with evidence, 6 of them will explain why with their feelings and the last one will never call you back.

There is only one way to find out.

Start with the newest and work backwards from there if you have issues.

    442.59 for Pascal GPUs.

Based on a big test result on reddit, i will have dig up the link.

So far it's true in my case, with 442.59 games have no microstutters, and it all just feels smooth.

Much smoother, i tried 445.98 but it still suffered from stuttering of some sort, just didn't feel smooth.
