Debating if i should really spend some money coming hopefully soon on a Geforce 1660 for this Intel I7 based system, or opt for a bigger upgrade to Ryzen 3700X?

    Only game @ 1080P

    Games Played
    American Truck Sim
    Euro Truck Sim 2
Need For Speed Payback (currently on laptop)
    Grand Theft Auto V
    and Secondlife

if not worth a whole platform upgrade, then buying the video card asap soon as money arrives, and getting the new card installed, current card is Geforce 1050 2GB

If buying the 1660 means you cannot afford the 3700X or vice versa, then I would personally go for the GPU. With those being the only games you play atm, you'll see more performance from purchasing the 1660 vs the 3700x imo. I would simply overclock that CPU if you don't already.

Well don't think my Motherboard or Processor capable of overclocking, Only have Intel I7 7700 (non K version) Yeah think will go for in this case 1660 Super, i mean i could afford more if i saved longer, but yeah think will just end up getting the 1660 Super and getting it installed into system, and should be fine while continuing to save funds for any future upgrades down the road needed

With a 1660S you won't have much of an issue with the 7700. It should be enough in most games for the 1660S, with few exceptions.

You'll definitely see a bigger improvement with a new GPU.

Thank you all for the informative replies, definitely going with GPU upgrade for sure once money available, get it ordered, delivered and then install it.

stay with 7700k and try upgrade to gtx 1660, forget the 3700x or you will lose performance, 7700k are more stronger in games than 3700x even with 2080ti in 2k resolution

Looking at benchmarks on line the 3700x is better than the 7700 at everything other than 4k gaming.

    He doesnt have a K.
But I would still recommend getting a much better GPU first.

I'm sticking with my 6700K for hopefully another few years because there is nothing I play that suffers.
This will make it even longer in the tooth than my old 2500K which lasted me 5 years! Its now in my Dads PC.

You won't have to worry about your cpu for several more years. Just upgrade the gpu. I would opt for better than a 1660 though, if you can afford it. Try to find a 2060 super, that will last you much longer than the 1660.

Nah, stick with the 7700, AMD is barely a sidegrade for gaming. Waste of money.

Just take the new gpu and have fun and if you upgrade your system go for ryzen 3000 series future proof better prices better thermals equal fps also this demonstration 7700k@4.7ghz vs 3900x@4.2ghz with arma 3 is a JOKE my 3800x goes up to 4.625 single thread 60% higher 1% fps,20% better average fps.
