Yeah, kinda a hard sell, considering you have to buy dGPU for it.

And its weak to handle any modern dedicated gpu.

I guess AMD would want to squeeze it somewhere between Athlons and the Ryzen 3 G series price-wise. I concur that it's going to be a very hard sell - why would you go for this instead of an Athlon (super-budget choice) or 2200G (much more value for just a little more money)?

No point in that when you can get the Ryzen 5 1600 AF for $85 that has 6 cores and 12 threads.

Not necessarily. The 2300X will have substantially better single-threaded performance with better efficiency. If the 2300X was priced lower than the 1600 AF, I think it'd actually be the smarter choice depending on your workload. For a home server or something to play older games in an ultra-tiny ITX build, it could make for an appealing option.

Otherwise yeah, the 1600 AF is a better CPU for desktop purposes for modern software.

Shouldn't single core performance be almost identical? The 1600AF is 12nm too.

I have no idea how they'll price this cpu. It's going to have to be very cheap since AMD has 2200G, 2400G, 3200G, 3400G, 1600AF, and all the 2000 series selling at low prices.

The only reason I can think to buy it would be that you have a gpu and want to have an inexpensive look at the AM4 platform. That's why I bought the 1200 when they were first released. I wouldn't waste my money upgrading my 1200 to this cpu. My best upgrade will be ryzen 4***G, any 3000, or 2700X.

    Ah whoops you're right - I was thinking 3200X (Zen2) instead 2300X (Zen+).

Any point to this when you can get 2700x dirt cheap now?

Not everyone wants or needs a 2700X. At $195 - $328USD (depending on source), I wouldn't consider the 2700X to be "dirt cheap".....especially when a 1600AF can be had for $85USD from Amazon.... If you're on a budget, that 1600AF at $85 is a much better option than a 2700X.....and even if you're not, the 3600X at $215, is still a better option.

I'm guessing the only reason this makes sense is for OEM's that get this for big discounts in bulk otherwise the market is too saturated already with better price to performance options.

The most part of CPU sale is not for gaming, also the AMD with graphic have the PCIe X16 slot working in X8 with Ryzen and in X4 with Athlon G(E) it can be problematic with some application card as big SAS controler that are in real X16, as an exemple.
It's for that they have kept 4C/4T Ryzen 1*** in their catalog until last week.
This might be the successor, if confirmed, as there is still demand about those CPU.

you talk about a 130 Euro CPU while we talk about a 60 Euro CPU if they stay around 1200/1400 's latest price...

@airbud7 check out this comparison between the 9100F and 1600 AF. Insane bang for your buck, I think I'm gonna get one next week.

Well, my family members are still on 1st-gen core 2 Conroe, and Athlon II x2 Regor core PCs.
So yes, this is useful. This is great for Email PCs that you don't want to be outdated as fast as an Athlon GE machine would be.
An older A-series APU (pre-Ryzen) wouldn't even be an upgrade at this point, so I'm waiting for some cheaper Ryzen options.
Yes, even cheaper than the 1600 AF. It doesn't need to be that many cores.

    Why not a Vega-powered AMD 2200G~3400G range?
I already have a box of Terascale 8490 1gb DDR5 (or DDR3?) cards, used-but-working pulls. I keep them for spares.
Dell has a driver that works with Windows 10 (also, modded drivers do, too, but haven't needed those to make it work).
These also don't have driver issues that the later GCN through Vega/Navi have (not that I have seen anyways).
They're OKAY for casual games (not great, but okay), no current mainstream games will run well outside of super-low settings at 720p on them though.
So when I can reliably get (new) Ryzen 2xxx/3xxx quad-cores - possibly with SMT still enabled, I'm game.
Paired with updated B350 or B450 (MAX) series, it'll make a nice computer with 8gb of DDR4 in it, for web surfing and multimedia.
