I am thinking about building a new gaming PC. I do not want to pay more than 500US for a new AMD processor. Would I see a big different in gaming than what I am using now? I would be using a 1080 graphics card with it.
Ryzen 3600 is best all rounder for 200€. 3700X is best at 300-350. More, for gaming at 1080 is just wasting money. If there is more than gaming, there is much to add, but strictly gaming, just get the 3600.
You won't really see any improvement with anything AMD over an 8700k. In fact you might lose some top end FPS though it's hard to say how bad it would be on a 1080 as any AMD chip is capable of saturating a 1080. The only way you might want to do it is to get a 3900X if you need more crunching cores.
For gaming, if you have that 8700k overclocked to near 5ghz (literally takes 5 minutes in bios), you won't find anything from AMD that performs better, or even on par in gaming. You would be flushing money down the toilet going AMD for gaming. Give it some time, I don't even think 4xxx Ryzens will be a worthy upgrade purely for gaming, considering you'd have to spend a few hundred $$$ for same/worse performance. My guess is you'll have to wait for Intel's reaction to 4xxx Ryzens or AMD's reactions to those Intels before it's worth spending a few hundred $$$ on a gaming cpu.
Ryzen 3600 also performs worse in games than a 8700k. Buy a new motherboard and cpu and get worse performance? Why would anyone want to do that?
Ive been pondering for weeks now whether to change my i7 7700k to an Amd 3900x but after watch numerous reviews and benchmarks and most recently seeing how the new nvme pci-4 drives perform about the same in games and opposed to 3.0 i decided to stick with my 7700k, but what i did do was after doing a bit of reading up i changed my 32gig of Corsair vengeance por rgb 3200 for some Dominator 3600 and that alone has made at lerast the division 2 buttery smoot, im now a happy chappy and see no reason to upgrade for the next year at least.
I don't understand that, since going from 3200 MHz to 3600 MHz gives around 2-4 FPS on a i7 8086k. In some games the difference is zero.
Like Others Above i toyed with the idea on holding off for a Video card Upgrade for my I7 7700 based system, and saving/going for an AMD 3700X, 5700XT, 16gb of ram. But in the end just decided to upgrade video card on this I7 System from 1050 2GB, to 1660 Super 6gb, which should be more than enough for my 1080P gaming, and such
Overclock to 5GHz if your GPU is not fully utilized in the games you play (it would have to be a 2080 or above and 1080p for most modern games at Ultra settings). It will work even on the cheap Z370 boards. If you have a weaker GPU, there's not even a point to OC, at least not for gaming. \ If you upgrade to AMD, it should be for other workloads, like encoding/rendering, for gaming the 8700K, especially overclocked, is still near the top.
Well after reading about Intels latest issues i pulled the plug but went for the 3800x instead and an Asus Prime x570pro board...the 3900x just seemed an unnecessary extra £80-100 atm, also i had planned to switch eventually for pci-4 so my Corsair MP600 2tb can stretch its legs
8700k will be fine for years yet. Leave it, unless you run stuff that will saturate ALL cores a majority of the time, only then will anything with more cores be an upgrade. Otherwise you would be hard-pressed to notice the difference at all. Update your video card to a 2070 Super/2080 or better if you don't already have a 1080 or better, buy a 4k screen, if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket. I'd say a good upgrade from the 8700k is a good two years away at this point, unless you look to high-end desktop platforms like the x299 16/18 core chips and TRX40 socket 24/32-core threadripper 3xxx (not 2xxx!) series. Otherwise, be happy your PC isn't obsolete yet, we were lucky 20~25 years ago if it wasn't obsolete the day we walked out of the store with it.
Purely for gaming, you wouldn't be gaining anything going from 7700k @5ghz to a 3900x. I'm on a 7700k @5ghz and looking at charts, I could buy a 3900x and get same ish performance in games. Not worth a few hundred $$$ imo. I'll be waiting for some proper gains in gaming performance.
well for game not yet upgrade from 8700k especialy if have OC 4,8-5,1 GHz on all core, 4,8 is really easy ryzen especialy 3xxx its great cpu but not allways worthy to change from intel to amd if you play games especialy from 8600k and higher honestly 3600/x ist 6+6 and 8700k its too 6+6 ... and raw performance its pretty close if you like amd or want amd its ok, but dont expepting huge performance rise in game, in some case except lower performance if you buy whole new PC thats its another story and be honest not point for buy intel any way if nothing happend in intel my next new DTP have AMD cpu without doubt but now i enjoy 8700k on 5GHz
