Hi i wonder if anyone can help with the upgrade of my old graphic card as above. it has a 6 pin power supply lead that i have had to take off to get the card out. i have tried to replace the old 1GB card with a 2GB card but that doesn't work for some odd reason. my spec as follows Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz Bloomfield 45nm Technology RAM 12.0GB Triple-Channel DDR3 (8-8-8-19) Motherboard Acer FX58M (CPU 1) Graphics SMBX2331 (1920x1080@60Hz) 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 (ASUStek Computer Inc) power supply 400/1000 watts the new above card runs the computer very slow and like most new cards has no 6 pin connector. my thinking is my motherboard does not have the power to run a modern card thus the new card must be like the old card and have a 6 pin connector for the power? any help would be much appreciated on what 2GB new card has a 6 pin connector that i could try many thanks
That card is a very very low end model and is supposed to be just used in browing, videos web presentations ect no 3D cause its just not powerful enough and your old 4800 had more power a used gtx 750 can be had for around 40 - 50 pounds on ebay or facebook marketplace ect
just to use a 4 k monitor and the odd game. the reason the question is that I don't know what power is going to the motherboard and was assuming the 6 Pin connector was to be used to compensate for a low powered motherboard? if you can confirm this motherboard can take the card you surgest then will get one and thanks ps i am also wanting a very quiet card like my old one if possible? would a 2GB be better as my old card is 1GB and the one you recommend is 1GB?
would this be a better fit overall for my motherboard? Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB GDDR5 128 bit Graphics Card (GV-N105TOC-4GD) I'm not concerned with the cost just the compatibility and quietness https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GeForce-GDDR5-Graphics-GV-N105TOC-4GD/dp/B01MEHGRMS or Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1050 GDDR5 2GB PCI-E, Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MG1MP73/ref=psdc_430523031_t2_B01MEHGRMS
the 4gb will be best for 4k although it wont play well at 4k with new games as long as your mobo has a pci-e slot it should work fine
gtx 1050ti e the same performance as a HD7870 ghz. Just look for a cheap rx470, 570, 480 or 580. This will do it.
i wasn't looking for anything cheap just compatible with the original card AMD 4800 which has run perfectly the past 12 years the only reason for a change is that the driver is no longer available for windows 10 and the Microsoft driver won't scale the monitor hence a gap of 2 inches all around on a 24-inch monitor what about this card? Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1050 GDDR5 2GB PCI-E, Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MG1MP73/ref=psdc_430523031_t2_B01MEHGRMS
There is official Windows 10 support for the HD 4800 and it's provided by Windows update. There's no official standalone driver package to download for it. That GTX 1050 would work, although it's slow considered low level if you want to play new games and a definite no-go for 4k gaming

it's ok I have found the exact match game card that should be the equivalent to the original card Amd 4800 with a 6 pin connector? and the 300-watt power needed? GeForce® GTX 1650 WINDFORCE Graphics Processing GeForce® GTX 1650 Core Clock 1785 MHz (Reference Card: 1665 MHz) CUDA® Cores 896 Memory Clock 8002 MHz Memory Size 4 GB Memory Type GDDR5 Memory Bus 128 bit Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 128 GB/s Card Bus PCI-E 3.0 x 16 Digital max resolution 7680x4320@60Hz Multi-view 4 Card size L=229 W=119 H=36 mm PCB Form ATX DirectX 12 OpenGL 4.6 Recommended PSU 300W Power Connectors 6 Pin*1 Output DisplayPort 1.4 *1 HDMI 2.0b *3 SLI Support No it's on offer in the uk so at around £130 i think its good value?
you name a new card than with the 6 pin connector? I'm only going on what I'm replacing the Amd 4800 and with 2 failed cards already ( computer slowdown) that I've installed the ASUS NVIDIA Gt 710 2 GB Passive Cooling Pci-E Graphics Card, Black and MSI RADEON R7 240 2GD3 64B LP Graphics Card 2GB DDR3, 600 MHz, Low Profile Design, AMD Oland PRO GPU, VGA, HDMI, DVI-D, HTPC, Single Fan Cooling System and with my local so-called computer card experts coming up with nothing I must play safe and if the card GeForce® GTX 1650 WINDFORCE at least works then to me that's a success even if the card isn't perfect? I'm just after a reliable card and I'll have to settle for that if possible with the GTX 1650 of course, if you wish to advise me further on a NEW card to look at then please do thanks
There is nothing wrong with a GTX1650 as long as you understand that it's not going to provide the best gaming experience at 4K. The GT710 and R7 240 are both downgrades from an HD4800 series card. Neither were intended to drive a 4K display, nor was an HD4800 series card.
The 1650/1650 Super is fine, and you can keep it for your next computer, too, when your current machine decides it no longer loves life and eventually dies. The 1650 super is as much as 50% better than the regular 1650, so I would very much recommend you skip the regular 1650. However, that being said, the following cards will work okay. 750Ti 2gb Radeon 7850 2gb (used!) Radeon Rx 460 Nvidia 1050 2gb Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti 4gb Nvidia 1650 4gb AMD Radeon RX 470 4gb (make sure this only uses a 6-pin, if it needs more, do not buy!). AMD Radeon 5500 series (XT or non-XT, doesn't matter) 4gb card. Make sure only needs a 6-pin power connector. Nvidia 1650 Super 4gb At somewhere around the 1050Ti to 1650 your machine will be bottlenecked by the processor and not by the video card anymore. I would consider buying a Ryzen 2200G / 2400G / 3200G / 3400G based system and using that in-stead. The savings in power alone would be the difference between buying a full system replacement, and using your current PC with a new video board over the next several years. That said if you love your old computer, just replace the video board. If it were me and it ate 2 video cards already I would buy a power supply replacement for it, as while the one in there isn't trash, they aren't known for being the world's best when it comes to built-in surge surpression and over-current / over-power etc protection features built in. This however complicates things some, so consider all your options here. If buying a power supply, do read reviews and know it can be a daunting task (But all plugs are keyed and normally can only go in one way unless you use a hammer - don't use a hammer). I wish you the best of luck. If the video board you purchase does not boot on your PC (these things happen), choose another model or another manufacturer and model. Edit: you will not have 4k gaming experience success on a video board with one 6-pin power connector, even the majority of the folks with beefy supplies don't game at 4k regularly unless they have a 300~400$ price graphics card or better. You won't do 4k gaming that well on an older, more dated machine without a lot of hitching. 1080p will be fine on that machine with a half-decent card though, I'd consider the 1650 Super or a 1050Ti 4gb as good models to start from for 1080p high detail. To game at 4k you will likely want a newer machine, as while the slower processor might not be the limit, 4k requires a LOT of graphics VRAM for the frame buffer and for the increased model and texture detail (models are loaded in by the amount of pixel fill, more pixels from higher resolution = more models loaded and rendering at high detail = more VRAM and GPU horsepower and in-turn more CPU to do the draw calls for rendering them). If someone has corrections to this, please issue them in a constructive manner for the benefit of the original poster.
